I went overboard! Went out to Joe Pool on Friday, and put in at Lynn Creek park, just to mix it up since I usually put in at the State Park. Fished the marina for a while and caught a small bass on a fluke, and then went past the bridge into the cove with the timber. Caught another bass and a few sandies on a crankbait on a small point when I decide to head towards the park shoreline to see if I could find some grass. I finally get over to the rocky shoreline by the swimming area and see a few fish on the graph. At this point I've been on the lake for about 5 hours, so my butt is killing me (I need a new seat) so I decide to stand up and fish for awhile. Now, I have a 10 foot SOT, so it's not really built for standing in, but I've done it dozens of times with no problem, and I'm tired from paddling. I stand up for about half a second and start to lose my balance, and I know at this point there is no saving it, I fly into the lake with my Revo/Skeet Reese rod combo in hand. Shocked from the cold water and the fact that I just fell in, I see my rod slowly sinking into the abyss so I quickly grab it and make my way back onto the kayak, hoping that someone saw me and got a good laugh. After that, I stopped, had a sandwich, and vowed to never stand up again ... But I will.

I feel your pain, I went in last weekend and ended up losing a St Croix Mojo/Extreme reel combo. A huge wind gust caught me just right and there was no saving it, luckily my skeet pole is bright so I was able to fish it out.

It was nice yesterday but I bet that it was still a bit cool for that. It may look a bit funny but I have floats on all of my rods because I've had too many go overboard.

Nice you got your rod back. It wasnt accidental, it was practice for the accident.

Glad you didn't lose anything and everything turned out ok. I had a close call while standing yesterday as well. I flipped on joe pool a couple yrs ago and lost 4 of the 5 falcon caras I had with me. That hurt!! Did you find any grass ?? I was there about a month ago or maybe a little longer and couldn't find any along the park.

Everyone dumps sooner or later, only the honest ones will admit it! rolfmao

Didn't see any grass, but I didn't make it very far down that shoreline. Only grass I've found was in the marina.

Glad you're okay, and saved your gear. I've taken a minor swim, while stepping onto a steep bank, but haven't had my first official dunk yet.

like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

I saw my buddy topple over on benbrook one day and lost 2 real nice setups. I vowed that day to get rod floats so it wouldn't ever happen to me. There has been multiple times when I went by an overhanging branch and it pulled the pole out... luckily, my rod floats saved that day.. Well worth the $20 investment.

ONLY ONCE!!!! I dumped twice on my first outing!!! Then once more in cold water; now that is a bad scene when the water is about 50 degrees or lower. The body does some weird stuff on the initial shock.

Did it once on the coast just after I had bought my kayak wanted to see if I could stand up found out how quick these things will flip. I was only in about a foot of water so only hurt my pride.
