A perfect day for fishing. Great weather,a little breeze, and fishing with the "RIONATOR". Myself and Fred fished lake Dunlap and the bite was good. The fishing started out slow. We managed a couple of nice Bass and a fat Channel Cat the first two hours. After that the bite picked up. We ended up catching 14 Bass with 8 being in the 14 to 15 inch range. We also caught a bunch of nice Redbreast and Bluegill in the 7 to 8 inch range. Towards the end of the trip I landed a super nice Redear that weighted 2.03 lbs. The fish was 12.50" in length and it's girth was 11.75". All fish were caught close to the shoreline. We fished by over hanging tree limbs and docks. Worms and Minnows were used. Float, drop shot, and bottom techniques were used. All fish were released with the exception of the Redear which had swallowed the hook. The Redear went to the cleaning station after it's weighing and she was full of eggs. I would have released her if not for the swallowed hook. After a day on the lake we headed to our favorite Jack In The Box in New Braunfels. A day on the water with the "Rionator". It don't get any better. fish

Nice fishing guys! Wow two "TWO POUND" Redear this year. Super job Chuck! flehan

Side Note: I guess this is the spawning time of year for the Redear. Do they spawn the same as the rest of the Sunfish family? Also what bait did she bite on?

Thanks "Gitter" for the reply. cheers Based on the eggs this fish had she was fixing to spawn. eeks I have also found eggs in some of the Bluegill that I have cleaned this past week. hmmm I know both the Bluegill and Redear are fixing to spawn. thumb The Redbreast and Longear also spawn during mid spring. I think this years spawn is going to run later in the spring.(Just my opinion). 2cents As for the Greens and Warmouth I would think they would spawn about the same time as the the rest of the sunfish. breakdance

Fishing with Fred the Rionator,I would expect someone to catch a hog. Congrats it was you! That seems plumb crazy to catch 2-2lb red ears in a few months. Congrats!

Thanks for information Chuck. Do you know how many times a Redear Spawns a year? Just curious.

Thanks Chuck. I did some reading. According to what I found out it's usually twice a year in Texas.
