Guys, I finally got my side imaging transducer located properly.

Having difficulties figuring out which transducer each piece of equipment is using.

Here is the hardware:
1. 899 on bow, US2 transducer hooked up from Terrova.
2. 1199 on console, side imaging transducer and XP 9 20 transducer pigtailed into 1199.
3. Terrova, 899, and 1199 all networked into 5 port switch.

The 899 is definitely reading the US2, but the side imaging is coming in very dark, almost like it is not reading the rear side imaging transducer through the network properly.

The 1199 is apparently getting both the side imaging and sonar from the side imaging transducer. Not sure how to switch it over the XP 9 20 epoxied inside the bottom of the boat. Beautiful picture when idling, but when I get up on plan the sonar just "kinda" works on the 1199 - only sometimes giving me a depth reading.

I pulled it off the water since it was driving me nuts trying to figure it out. Hopefully I can try to tweek it from my garage.

Any suggestions?

You can't "tweak" sonar if it is not in the water.

If you are using the AS SIDB Y cable for the two console transducers, you can't select one or the other for 2D sonar. The 83/200 kHz crystal in the SI transducer is not electrically connected. The shoot-thru is electrically connected it its place. The combination functions as a single SI transducer.
83/200 kHz 2D from the shoot-thru and SI/DI/Temp from the SI transducer.

Did you do an on-the-water test to determine the best locatiom for the shoot-thru BEFORE it was attached to the hull?

You select what source to get sonar data with the Ethernet menu. Did you follow the Ethernet instructions to set up the Ethernet menu?

Wayne,

Looks like I have made some goofs. First off, I just called Ranger for location of the shoot-thru. The previous sonar was Lowrance and it was also stuck to bottom of bilge. They told me to stick it the XP 9 20 puck near it. I guess the puck output will do. It just cut in and out - maybe the wave bumps.

Also, did not follow Ethernet setup instructions - did not get any with the 5 port switch. So do I go into the Ethernet menu of the 899 to get SI readings of the 1199 through the network?

Thanks for the response.

Yes, with Ethernet, you choose the source for the sonar data.

If you followed the Ethernet instructions, you know which unit has the transducers connected to them so you can make those choices.

If you still have the Lowrance transducer attached, you can use the Humminbird transducer adaptor used with a Motor Guide trolling motor with built-in transducer.

Darn, just had the dash pulled apart to put in the NMEA 2000 network.

The old transducer plug is just dangling there. Wish I had know that before buying the Humminbird puck.

Will buy the adapter and try anyway to see if it is any better.

Headed to Lake Lewisville to try the Either menu in the 899.

Where do you get the Ethernet instructions?

Good question, it used to be easy before Humminbird changed their web site.

Go to the Yahoo Side Imaging Group section, select Files, go down to Ethernet Installation and Operations Guide and download the PDF file.

This link may take you there, just a guess.

BTW, Ethernet is not plug and play, you have to set it up like you want it.

Just got back from Lake Lewisville.

Side imaging is coming in great on 899 now.

Lots of other questions coming up. Will take a look and the manuals tomorrow and see if any of the answers are obvious.

Thanks Wayne!

Wayne,
Where can the adapter to use the lowrance transducer be purchased or do you have a part #? I assume this adapter hooks up to the Y cable.

It was discussed on another forum, that is how I know it exists. I have no personal knowledge of its use or what the part number is.
You have all the info that I have.
You need a Humminibird plug to plug into the Humminbird Y cable.
