Safe to eat the fish north of DFW. Not south.

Quick update: Sandies are in, hugging the spillway. Along the wall where you stand to cast into the water coming over the spillway, the spotted bass are lying in wait for whatever washes over the wall! Was there about 15minutes this afternoon, saw two sandies, good ones, caught, and I caught a REALLY NICE KENTUCKY SPOTTED BASS!

Then, as a dropped the white curly tail grub straight down the concrete wall, I got one of those PATENTED ELM FORK HOOKUPS! Doubled rod over, stripped almost all my line, then dropped the jig. No line breakage, he just spit it out. I had 6 lb test, so I was content to loosen drag and let him wear out, but he just got bored and spit! Hybrid? sure hit like one, but in a river, who ever knows until it's flopping at your feet.

Good flow for fishing, water clear, and I dragged grubs all the way across the channel,at the base of where the water comes spilling over, and NEVER GOT SNAGGED. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!

the no name lake in the LB Houston greenbelt/trails across the street is low, so the crappie should be ganged up all the way around that puddle. Good crappie, bass and sandies in there.

Got 2 sandbass out there today. Rudy you're not lying about that pattented Elm Fork hookup. I brought something very heavy all the way to the bank and right before I could see it my line went slack. Happened once more but didn't get it as close. Also snapped my line once. So that's 3 heartbreaks in 1 day.

I'd like to give a big thanks to Carey Thorn for 1) re-scheduling my creek trip for a day better suited to fish on and 2) texting me all day with tips and info while I was out at CC trying to land one of those big fish. I also had the most embarrassing cast in the world. Pulled back to cast, lure got snagged on the ground, arm went forward, pole came out of hand, lure came un-snagged, pole launched into water. It probably looked like I just threw the pole 5 ft into the river. Luckily fished it out with my other rod, unluckily there was a witness.

Gotta love the Elm Fork! My all time favorite river to fish. Been fishing it since 1971 and still a satisfied customer!

Looking forward to giving this place a try! Just to ask, is the park itself / parking lot open and accessible? I don't want to crowd anybody so just curious if there's enough room on the bank in case there's some other people already there whenever I go. Any advice on how to best enjoy the place will be appreciated and thanks for the updates for sure, very appreciated and fun to hear your stories!!

Park open. Plenty of parking. Fishing space rt at spillway somewhat limited but plenty of open clean fishing shoreline downstream from spillway.

Fish are caught all over the place but obviously the sweet spot is where the water tumbles over the dam

Hit up the "Lake L.B Houston" pond that's by the L.B Houston biking trails across the street from the California Crossing spillway for the first time in about 2 years and the water level was extremely low.
This used to be a great pond. Fished it for 3 hours with no luck but I did see a few carp splashing in the middle. You could literally walk around the entire pond and the deepest portion was maybe 5 ft deep.
The pond directly behind the National Guard base is basically a puddle now, but I didn't bother taking pictures of it
