Been thinking about making a trip to Choke Canyon. I know its pretty low, but is it worth the trip? Any reports would be appreciated. fish

Haven't seen any reports, but that's not unusual this time of year and with tournaments and all.
This is from JP's weekly fishing report:
CHOKE CANYON: Water clear; 63-67 degrees; 23.80 low. Black bass are good on spinnerbaits and heavy jigs in grass. White bass are good on minnows and jigs. Crappie are good on minnows and white tube jigs. Drum are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on stinkbait and live perch. Yellow catfish are slow.

I've been fishing around the mason's point area i've seen alot of bass boats put in from that ramp area, like they tell me you have to be really careful going out in a boat right now trees sticking out everywhere as far as the eye's can see. And when they return i've talked to a couple of them their dissapointed not a single bite any pretty much by their words not coming back waste of time, your better of going to coleto creek for bass or another lake that has some water in it. If we do not get a decent rainfall this year to put some water in this reservoir,it will not be good.

We need it to full up. That will put it back in a great situation.

This is a perfect example of "be careful what you ask for, you just may get it."
Back when Choke was under construction, the original plans called for most of the hard wood be removed from the main lake. That didn't sit well with the Bass Clubs at that time, and they had a lot of influence and banded together with businesses and got that plan of clearing the lake nixed.

Now that the timber is rotted off at whatever the lake level stabilizes at the longest, it's turned Choke into a mine field.

Bet there is a lot of folks now wish they hadn't forced a change in plans!

Can a person safely run from Calliham to the dam without trouble if they stay in the main channel? Or is that still no guarantee of safety?

Run straight and yes. There is a shallow point between Calliham ramp and Calliham point, it has a buoy real close to the dangerous part. You also have to be careful right past the Calliham point, there are some shallow flats and you can stick your boat into them.

I'd say run the channel but you can't run the entire thing due to trees. There are trees on the main lake out by four fingers that were never visible before, BIG ONES!

It can be done but if you aren't used to it then I'd take it kinda slow.

The only thing busting down there is hulls.

Just sounds too stressful to me! I sure do miss fishing it, but until it catches some water, I think I'll do like the Beatles and Let It Be...

Lots of trees even in the channel. I had to use my mudboat to pull some one off of a tree that was directly under there boat and they were in the main channel doing donuts. They were not going anywhere with out help. With that said if you can get around the 99 bridge crappie bite was good until this front came. We also caught a few nice LMB in the same areas. Be careful. You could run east from Calliham toward four fingers but as Grout-Scout said there are some areas going that way that are popping up 'lil islands everywhere and some just under water too. Again be careful. There is no grass on the lake and the water is stirred up with all this back and forth wind.
