Is there a good forum for bass fishing in New Mexico ? Is anyone aware of a lake near Carlsbad? I don't really see one on the map? Any ideas? I live about 15 miles from New Mexico now and it is over 2 hours to Alan Henry. Thanks

Fishenchanment.com is as close as your are going to get. That is Brantley lake, the fish can not be kept form there due to bad farmland chemical runoff into the Pecos river. I think Elephant Butte may be the lake if you want to keep the fish you catch. The fishing is good at Brantley, just let em all go.

Crappie fishing is the end of the April normally.

Good Luck!

Another option is Lake Sumner just north of Fort Sumner. Don't know what the current water level is. Wishing you much rain.

Check out ABQsportfishing for New Mex. reports..
Ute came up several feet over the winter. Fished a T this weekend. Lots of numbers caught. lake looks better than the last few years.
I heard Conchas and the Butte have both caught some much needed water.. Not sure about the fishing though.

Headed to Navajo next month for a T. Little farther but a neat lake.

About an hour from Albuquerque. I lived in ABQ for over 10 years.

There's also the river in Carlsbad, also know as President's Park. Haven't fished in a couple years but usually can find spotted bass and largemouth.Best fishing is from a boat. Also more fishing on the river farther down stream.

I live in Carlsbad and I can tell you do not make the trip to Brantley it is a dead lake now. The bottom turned on it a couple years ago and it's just now starting to make a comeback but it's still a few years out from being a decent fishery. Our river in town is drained right now for repairs and won't be back up for another month. As stated above try lakes like conchas, ute, elephant butte or Santa Rosa.

Someone put Isleta on here, I actually like to fish Isleta, Sandia or Shady lakes. For bass Shady has the most, Isleta use to and can still be found. Even saw some nice ones this weekend at Tingley in the catch and release pond. I fish close to me a lot, Cochiti use to be my favorite, but it is a tough lake most of time.

Now I fish a lot in the Jemez and Fenton lake for trout. But since you are south of Lubbock, I would think the lakes East of you would be better, but I don't know. The snowfall this year is not that great and the runoff and filling of lakes is going to be tough again this year. Ute lake has the most water and is not required to let it out. Santa Rosa, Sumner on the Pecos has water issues and Conchas has water issues (drought). But go in a few weeks best water of the year. The draw downs can be seen from the parks:

I was just looking at the map again, you know I really liked staying and fishing at Inn of the Mountain God's and the streams/lakes around Ruidoso.

That looks close to you.
