I have 3 Continental TM 27 Marine batteries in my boat. All 3 are about a year old. All 3 hold a good charge and last all day running the trolling motor and 2 graphs.

My question is... Is it normal for there to be a small amount of liquid under the batteries in the battery tray? The cells are not over filled. (I don't think) But, I'll dry out the trays, and a couple of days later, there is a small amount of liquid in them again.

Thank You,

Bryan

sounds like overcharging. the water will expand and leak out some. or is rain getting in there somehow.

I think mine overcharged like that and I had liquid in the trays...to be sure if the acid, I tossed some baking soda in there and it fizzed up...so NOT GOOD. I replaced all my Continental batteries and bought sealed to avoid that problem. The fumes also affected my tackle - the line on my rods were weakened and frayed. I ended up washing out the entire interior storage campartment(s) where needed to get rid of the acid overflow. My two batteries are in front and behind that is the rod box, then all liquid drains oout the back of the boat - so I flushed with water and baking sode several times and scrubbed it all out. Don't wish that on anyone. My mind is at ease with AGM or sealed batteries. Good Luck!
