I am looking at doing some fishing on Lake Grapevine from the bank or in a canoe soon. Can anybody give me any info on where and what the best species to target are gonna be there. Thanks in advance for any info that can be provided.

Lots of variables there. I have caught sand bass on the bubbles (kayak not canoe), good size bass when the wind is blowing bait ... a lot depends on when and conditions.

Thanks for the reply. Based on lack of response it sounds like a go and find it for myself kinda thing. smile

Wish I could help, I mountain bike at North Shore all the time and am always looking for anything cruising the bank like big carp, but never see anything. Used to be big alligator gar up on the flats way up north. Have always wanted to take my kayak up there, but haven't found the time.

Yea, I never saw anything off Northshore or Horseshoe either one. Nice thing is prospecting just means a reason to fish!

You can put in at one of the Oak Grove boat ramps near the island and catch sand bass. They often school just south of there in the summer. Probably good from a canoe but not from shore. Other decent spots to try from your canoe would be Twin Coves (not sure the ramp is open yet, but there is a spot you can drive close to shore), Murrell Park, Sand Bass Point, and the cove north of Oak Grove on the back side of the island.

As for shore fishing, I don't do it myself since I'm a kayaker. I see people shore fishing at Meadowmere, some spots south of Oak Grove, and a few south of Murrell Park. I think most of these folks are targeting cats, drum, etc.

Murrell can be a lot of fun for sand bass in the spring. You might land a few largemouth there too.

It's been slow for the last few weekends as far as I can tell, but Twin Coves can be good for largemouth and crappie especially in the western cove. Sand bass come to the point and into the eastern cove some too.

Otherwise, just fish around and see what bites. There isn't much better than a day at the lake shore!

That's my 2cents
