I braved all the Cedar Creek boat traffic to fish a few hours today. It was a misty, foggy morning with light east winds when I got on the water about 9:00 am. It didn't get much lighter, and misted on and off all day.

The main lake water temperature was 59 degrees where I was, and I saw up to 66 degree water in coves. I headed straight for the cove where I caught a limit last Saturday. Today would prove to be much tougher for me, and I only managed one fish in that cove. It's hard to imagine that the spawn is over in that cove, with just 60 degree water, but last week's wave of crappie seemed to be gone.

I explored quite a few other coves, but never really found a good number of fish. It was just one fish here and one there. I probably should have fished deeper, and tried some dock shooting, but I wanted to look for shallow fish with my jig and bobber today, so that's what I did. Lots of protected coves are just too shallow with the lake this low. I need to explore a lot more water.

I ended up with eight keepers. Only three of them were what I would call really nice fish. They were all caught on a 2" chartreuse glitter tube, on a 1/12 oz tube jig, 14 inches or so below a bobber. All fish were released today.

Sounds like you gave it a good shot today. No good reports since yours last weekend.

There you go Bud, fishing instead of having breakfast with the boys!

Right now, you did about as good as anyone I've talked to on CCL. It's been really tough and I can't figure out why. Let me know if you find fish and holler if you want to get out one day this week, I'm good for any day but, Tuesday right now.

It's been a long time since I've blanked. I fished from 25' to 6" with all colors of the rainbow. Nothing.

Don't know if it's the crappie or the crappie chasers that's confused. I'm thinkin it's me!

No, the one fish from that cove was just a 12 inch male. I'd kept getting bit and not catching them. They'd move the bobber, or take it quickly under, but I couldn't get a hook in them. When I finally caught one, it was just the male.

I caught the photo fish a couple of hours later in another cove, just after another solid keeper. I was thinking I was on another good bunch of fish, but it wasn't so.

I'm the world's worst about not checking my voicemail when I'm off work. I didn't get on the water until 9:00. If I had seen your call, I would definitely have joined you for breakfast. I work on weekdays, but do occasionally get home from work early, sometimes even before noon. Do you ever get out for just for a few hours in the afternoon? I'm thinking about taking a day of vacation here and there in April, too. We should get on the water one or two of those days, too.

I forgot I took this photo, a black crappie, but another fish that was too chunky to fit the measuring board. It also shows the simple jig and bobber rig I always use. That jig looks more like 16 inches below the bobber than the 14 inches I usually use. I moved it slightly deeper after the super shallow bite just didn't seem to be there.
