Good info from Ty Southerland about kayak 101. Great video for anyone wanting some quick answers on the basics.

Chrstian, I think he's talking about you (seriously) at the 8:18 mark.

Interesting you brought this up. My neighbor who has several businesses at Lake Texoma brought me flyers for a "kayak fishing with Ty Southerland" event at Lake Texoma May 9-11. He knew I often went to kayak shops in Dallas like Mariner and asked if I would drop some flyers and cards off. I'll take a pic of the poster later and post it here if anyone is interested. Evidently there will be food, music and fishing......nothing wrong with any of those things.

I really enjoy that he leta everyone know that buying a used yak is perfectly fine. Too often I hear save your money and get what you want. I agree to some extent but thats time off the water. Get what you can afford and get out there. And I will for sure join the texoma thing. smile

I was really impressed with how humble Ty was when he came up here to visit last time. I'll be looking forward to visiting with him again when comes up.

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

I love 30 miles out, and Ty Southerland. His show is the reason why I bought a $175 fishing yak that I've been fishing out of for the last few months... And I absolutely love it! I'm not able to spend the big $$$ for something extremely nice. But I got something thats good, and fishes great... I encourage everyone to get what you can and get out on the water! Tight lines, folks!

Thats what a lot of us do. Start out with what we can afford, use them for a while...flip them on craigs list the next season and upgrade to a slightly nicer one (another used one). Thats exactly what I did.
