Had to sell my bass boat and just can't stand not being on the water. Been lurking in the kayak forum for a while and like the looks of the Oceon kayak trident 13 and the Ride 115x. Both in my price range. Where is the best place to go and look at them? Can you recomend a kayak fishing guide? Might be better to see if I even like fishing out of a kayak befor I buy one. Thanks

Mariner Sails will have the Ride 115X on the showroom floor and there will be someone there to answer all your questions. Ask for Shaun or Dave. I have the Ride 115X and I freaking love it. Its all about personal comfort and demoing.

Trinity River Kayak Co. and Cabelas are the only two places that I know of up here that carry the higher end Ocean Kayaks.

As for a guide I would contact Shane Davies, he fishes the Brazos river.

Was in your same situation. Kayak fishing has satisfied my need to be on the water and some. I have actually enjoyed kayak fishing more than I did from my Ranger. Like C-Frog said I would head over to Mariner Sails.

Where are you located at. Go to the kayak sites and search for a dealer near you. You want to ride in one first before you buy. Good luck.

I got my 115x's from mountain sports in arlington and got a great deal. They took me to lake arlington and I demoed the 115x and tarpon 120, both nice but chose the ride and josh was very helpful.

I would suggest making the short trip to fun-n-sun in Hurst. They don't carry those brands, but I have been quite pleased with the Santa Cruz Raptor. They also carry Feel Free kayaks. They have a new one that looks like a great fishing platform ( The Lure ). The Fun-n-Sun prostaffers on on this forum all the time. I pmed CudaDude close to 100 questions and met him for a test drive early one Saturday morning.

Unfortunately Fun N Sun is no longer our dealer. I told them I can't stand the thought of my Raptors displayed next to a kayak imported from communist China! Feel Free to choose,,, but with all the great kayaks made in this country, I can't imagine why anyone would choose to ignore all the fine American made products out there.

Demo,,, then decide which suits your needs.

Not to get too off topic, but according to the literature from FeelFree the kayaks are manufactured by Joy Sports Co., LTD in Bangkok, Thailand.

i have had 3 boats in the past and had a ball but for fishing i can say ive had as much if not more in my kayak. they are a blast and you can get into places boats cannot. i have had bass hit right next to my kayak with guys in there $70k bass boats are catching nothing. just the slower pace paddling around relaxing and catching the snot outa fish is fun and relaxing. then when ya get home instead of 2-3 hours of work its 20 minutes of unloading hose down and your done. ill have a boat again but not any time soon.

google search rental place in your area along with the demos. get on a variety of kayaks and pick which one you want. one thing to remember, you can buy one rigged how you want right off the bat or spend less initially then add all the stuff you want and end up at the same point. have fun and let us know what you get.
