Splitting the 8 inch screen 3 ways is often the way to go. Chart, Sonar, and either Down or Side.

All good .... The Lowrance has great imaging features! Side scan is great but the down scan even better.. Whether you go with the 7, 8 or 10 in. screen you'll be happy... The Navionics chip I believe is one to get.. It's the chip i have. Better yet call the Garland (ray hubbard) Bass Pro Shop and ask for Doug in electronics! He is Very helpful with any questions that you may have.. And of course always check with David at shut-up-and-fish before you make that final purchase decision ..

Shut-up-and-fish x2. David with shut up and fish will go the extra mile and a half to make sure the purchase is what fits ur needs and will follow up to make sure u know how to use them. Any of the above mentioned screens are exceptional. I have used and have been in other boats with the mix. Hummer on troller and lowrance on console. Gen 2 is a much faster setting and recovery, purchase as big a screen as u can, your eyes will not get any better than they are right now. Good luck and enjoy, the down scan will change ur whole approach in finding and Ketchin.

The HDS 7 is hard to beat for the money. Yes the 8 and 10 are better, but they are much more expensive. If budget is a major consideration I would highly suggest the HDS 7. I have a first gen HDS 7 with structure scan and I love it. It works great and with my chip I can see everything I need to know about the lake down to 1 foot elevation changes. If you get it have gofishnow tell you how to set it up, he is very good at that. Mine is tuned in just right and it works great.

I agree with Pastor John. I've had mine for just over a year now and you will be amazed at the detail the downscan has. The screen is small but definitely usable and easily readable. A friend of mine has the 8 and for the price I wouldn't. Haven't seen the 10 in action so can't speak to that.
