I am giving up Bass fishing. No more for me. I am going to get me a cane pole and worms and go brim fishing!! Last two trips, nothing, not one bite, spend money on baits, rods, reels, etc... No fish, I am starting to think the fish have it in for me. Not going to waste any more time or money. WELL, maybe one more trip.......

I know exactly how you feel. I spent 3 weekends solid plus some fishing Canyon Lake and I have managed 4 fish over that time. When you divide 4 14" fish by time and money spent... Wow

Spending money doesn't make the fisherman, time on the water and persistence does.

I rush every spring up here in CO. I go out when the water is barely 40 degrees and try and get a bite. Up here we are a month away from any decent fishing but I go out anyway.
For me, just being on the water is good enough. The fish will come.

It happens to all of us... It's that time of year. Another month and you'll be sick of fishing because you catch so many. Wait it out it's worth it

I made it a point to quit buying the newest baits, I have 12 years worth of plastics in the storage unit and in the boat. Other than replacing a hung DD22, i think i jinx myself buy purchasing to newest plastic.
My 65 year old Dad will whip my butt with a 25 year old grape worm!

Don't give up. I had my first good day on a cold water lake (been at power plants) yesterday in I don't know when. On my way to the lake now.

I can't tell you how many times I've quit. Next day I'm back at it, that is if I can get away from work. Funny I've had more non catching days than catching but still go back for more. Getting away from the phone, keyboard and monitor. guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

My 65 year old Dad will whip my butt with a 25 year old grape worm! Good Memories. I managed a Gibson store in the very early 1970s and the GRAPE WORM, usually the Fliptail worm was the all time favorite bait. It fell out of favor later on in favor of all of the new baits of the week, but I would guess it is still the all time historical favorite. Texas was full of new lakes at the time (Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend, Livingston, etc) and Ambassadeur reels, Worm Rods, and plastic worms were the new items to have. Not to speak of Terry Bass Boats and the all new Skeeter Boat. I don't know how Skeeter survived this boat to become one of the favorite bass boats. In a bad storm it had the nickname of "Suicide Boat". To a lot of fishing guys surprise, Lake Fork wasn't even built yet. Many of the now popular lakes were still on the drawing boards. The 1970s were probably the heyday of bass fishing in Texas. Everything about it was all new. One of my best memories of the 70s was fishing Sam Rayburn with a Grape Worm, or a Firetail Grape Worm. Catchng 50 to 100 a day was no problem. Of course there were no ten pounders and up. Florida strain Bass had not been introduced to Texas yet. But the native six to eight pounders were plentiful and mean. I remember one special evening when John Fox took five of us out on Big Sam and we caught 200 bass in five hours, and the number didn't even surprise us. Gosh, it was fun being a fisherman in that era. FOND MEMORIES OF BETTER DAYS GONE BY.

Greater challenge will make you a better angler if you can figure out how to catch them when tough. Finesse. Spinning reel light lines. Drop shot, wacky, small stuff. Turn challenge into opportunity.

A day of fishing still beats most other days. I use to get upset when I would go out and zero, but now I have leaned to just be thankful I have the time to go out and enjoy time on the water. Since I have started this approach my time fishing has been more relaxing and fun. It is nice to go out and catch the numbers, but my last 2 trips I have boated 6 fish a few years ago I would have been very disappointed with those numbers. I think if you slow down and enjoy the day on the water your catch totals will increase.

I got spoiled going to Mexico. I just can't do 5 bites a day anymore after going down there all these years and catching 100 per day. I had rather stay home 3 long weekends and take that money and go to Mexico once a month for 5 days of fishing.
