Just moved to alvarado about 10 min from lake, was wondering what the crappie fishing is like out there. Should I focus on catching slabs there or drive a little further to Whitney? Never fished either lake, any help would be great thanks

Check the fishing barge at Juniper Cove Marina at Whitney

I've caught crappy at Alvarado in the past. I live near Benbrook so that is where I spend most of my time. I can drive a lot farther to not catch fish. Eventually I've figured some things out.

I have a few condos in Alvarado, but haven't caught much off of them. Only fished them a few times, and caught one. It has some decent bass, caught a couple over 11 there when I bass fished. I mostly fish Benbrook as well. I am not that good, but it is kind of fun trying to find them on a little bigger lake, but not too big to break the bank on gas. I would like to try other lakes, Aquilla, Cedar Creek, Lavon, but with a gas guzzler truck, I hate to have to pull the boat there.

Alvarado was never good to me , but it does hold good fish
