I use a heavy for "heavy" cover....I'll go to a medium if I'm ledge fishing and no wood....

Usually m/h but I usually fish with 20# flouro. If I fish braid I go to heavy

I stick with heavy for all of my jig fishing. Even with lighter line I prefer the heavy. You are trying to penetrate a weed guard and a fishes mouth with a big hook. That said, not all rod manufacturers rate their rods the same. The heavy rods I use are not broom sticks.
Some folks say that fishin on a Sunday is a sin, but if a fish bites my line, you know I'm gonna reel him on in!

I have better hook up ratio with a heavy action on most jigs except for light wire finesse jigs.

It depends on the rod. Not all heavies are the same. I like a stout rod but not too stout. St Croix's Heavy 7 foot somethings are just about right for me.

A good jig rod has a good backbone. I like a 4 power Gloomis or the old Team Daiwa rods. They have the backbone with a soft tip.
The tip makes it easier to flip or pitch with. You can load up the rod and the action lets it go easier with less arm movement.

Well it says MH on the blank but is stouter than most manufacturers heavy rod. PG104
I have a heavy/fast custom rod that does well too.

if you are flipping and pitching into thick cover, go as heavy as you can (obviously not too exaggerated either) with some braid
