I agree with patriot07 and think 50% of 4wds never see a dirt road and I drag a 21ft skeeter with a Tahoe 2wd and have no trouble at Diablo east.Just pick your spot to load up and it helps that I have ton of [censored] in the back end which helps with traction.I had 4wds when I worked in the patch and needed them at times but no more.

I haven't found a ramp my 2wd drive 3/4 ton wouldn't handle. I'm not fishing if it's icing or snowing, it's Texas. I'm going hunting! Now if I did have a 4wd, I'd launch next to any bridge I found (mostly with the duck boat).

I have used mine more for work or at the deer lease than I have with the boat. I have seen the boat ramp ice up on cold mornings and kicked it in 4WD just in case. I don't know if I would have had trouble, but I didn't have to take the chance.

I see many more 4wd than 2wd.... Why do you need 4x4 to pull boat You dont NEED 4x4 to pull a boat anymore than you need a glass boat to catch fish ... But its fun to have!

If you drop your boat off a muddy beach, it sure comes in handy. Other than that, you will do fine with 2wd. I have locking rear wheels and that sure helps on slippery ramps.

I use mine more with my small boat, but that's when launching from the bank. I go when it's raining or has been raining which although hasn't been lately. I enjoy the piece of mind when I'm going through the mud or when I have to back up all the way in the water to launch the boat in tight places. But for towing a full size bass boat and using ramps I don't think you would need it. One exception is that small gravel ramp at Lavon. I was glad I had my Jeep when we used that one a few months back.

More is better than less... Only used my 4x4 a few times on ramps.... Other times it has been for fun!

you don't need a 4wd to pull a boat its just nice to have one you never know when you need the 4wd. It better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. If you can afford it i would get a 4wd.

Just to echo what most everyone else has said, better to have it when you need it. I had 2 WD trucks my whole life and after a few times of driving to the lake and waking up early in the morning and getting stuck because it rained the night before where I parked and not being able to pull the truck and boat out. Then have to unhook and have a buddy pull you out.... It just screws up a whole day of fishing. Also that piece of mind at the boat ramp. I have had 4 WD trucks for last 10 years now.

I have a 2 wheel drive and have only had trouble on one ramp. That sorry ramp at Quinlan Park on Lake Austin was slick as owl *bleep* one day. Had to bounce on the rear bumper to keep it from slipping.
I think it was mostly because that ramp drops, goes flat, and then drops again. Plus they put those grooves in it which are great when it isn't wet but useless when wet.
I plan on getting a 4WD next go around though.

I use the 4wd on my Yotabanger almost every day...then again, most days I work in or close to water and/or swamps.
The 4wd feature comes in really handy at times, not just in the country. I've had to climb some steep curbs to get out of a spot especially around warehouses, couldn't done it with 2wd. I've climbed some steep slopes around bridges and on ramps with wrecks or stalls on them, and walked right across some muddy medians to get out of traffic jams. 'Course I don't recommend anybody break the law.....
I've launched the shock boat on some really muddy pond banks, and got it back out again. Try doing that on a golf course pond, with straight down banks and the super watching to be sure you don't spin a tire and make a rut...climbed steep hills with a fish trailer in the Hill Country, 4 wheel low in first gear stuff, you ain't got no "compound low" in 2wd, standard or auto.
4wd only for me.

I'll forever have 4x4 now. If I only use it a few times a year in bad weather or slick inclines it is definitely worth it. I can go places and do things when others cant.
I'd rather be the one pulling people out of a bind rather than needing to be pulled out.
I'll never own another 2wd truck. Worst traction of any vehicle due to no weight.

For over thirty years all I've ever drove was 2WD. Never had many problems on ramps. Now I launch on some private lakes, some of which don't have ramps.
I'll always have 4WD from here on out.
