I have a 250hp mercury, hds 10, hds 7, with structure scan, and a hydrowave. If I run my live wells early in the day my battery will die and I have to buy a new one every year. I currently have a interstate group 24 w/ 800 mca / 1000 cca.
ANY SUGGESTIONS???
Buying a new one today or tommorrow.

Find a grp 27 at least, grp 31with a 205 min rating even better.
just be sure it will handle the cranking (1000 mca is what i keep seeing is needed for that engine).

When I bought my nitro I had to replace the interstate batteries within 10 months. Switched to to Everstart batteries (about half the price of the interstates) 3 years ago and havent had a problem since. Now that I said that I will probably have dead batteries this weekend!!

My opinion.. After extensive research as I just went through this and bought three. Sears Platinum is the best battery you can buy. Marine with 1150 CCA At 275.00 it should be. negotiated to to 235. There AGM and sealed. Also my jack plate relay is bad and was was dragging on my starting battery not helping my problems, I hope to go off shore this year and don't want problems.

Just FYI My dad built the battery factory in Carrollton that was polluting and had to be torn down a few years ago. He said back in the day every battery he had ever heard of was made on one production line. They just changes the labels at the end.

If a Everstart MAXX Marine 29DC will fit in the hole (battery tray) then buy one. It will work. It has 845 cranking amps.

If your running your electronics off the starting battery, a cranking only battery will not cut it. It will have to be a deep cycle battery with enough cranking amps.

If it is a deep cycle that your using already then your group 24 doesn't provide enough reserve minutes.

Get the biggest deep cycle battery that will fit in the hole.

I cut the side out of my battery tray to get the bigger battery to fit.

Most batts are made in the same place. Maybe 2 companies really make them and then sticker them per customer. Wally world is your best bet for convience. There is one in every little town near the lake so issues can be fixed easliy. But you need to keep a xerox copy of your receipt in the boat or truck because last battery I bought they did not put any personal info in a computer system.

As for the OP question...I would check to make sure there is nothing drawing the battery down as well. If it is hooked to your starting cable then they battery should receive charge while the big motor is going. I will say from personal experience that the livewell seems to draw a lot of power and that might be some of your issue.

Down here we have a battery place that sells "used" batteries that are really just computer backup power for ginormus computer systems. These things weigh a ton and are true deep cycles batteries. They seem to last a really really long time and hold charge well.

Depends on the size and ic it is one of the more expensive, i believe they still go up to 24 months on some msfine batts

Deka Marine 12v cranking battery group 27,1050mca,182rc,and 840cca. I have the same motor and this is what my mechanic recommended. Never had any problems.

+2 on the sears platinum die hard group 31. All batteries are not the same. I run an hds 10 and 7 with a 225 pro sx. Never had a problem. 3yr free replacement. I have tried numerous batteries and this has been the best hands down.
