I've never fished a kayak tournament but I plan to fish the beavers. Bend kayak Classic. Can someone explain exactly how the catch and picture works. What type of camera do you use and how do u turn in your pictures? Sorry if it's a stupid question.

Get a measuring stick, and a digital camera that uses an SD card. At the end of the tourney, you hand in the SD card. Make sure it's absolutely clean before you start.

Check with tournament rules to see what kind of measuring devise they approve. Some will only allow HawgTroughs some allow Check it Stix, some allow either. Practice measuring and taking pics before tournament day. It can be a little tricky at first. Fish has to be laid out head to left with nose touching board, tail to right. Make sure fish is not upside down. rolfmao If you don't get picture from almost directly above it will be hard if not impossible to see exact measurement. Check your camera picture before you release fish. Zoom it in and see if you can absolutely positively determine length. If its taking too long put fish in net in water while you figure out if you have a good picture. Take more than one if you have to. I hold my hand on fish to keep it from flopping out of kayak and often times leave hook in fish (release drag) in case it does. Some tournament require closed mouth, some don't. Its up to each fisherman to know the rules.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Good info. Thanks Iconn. Now, if I could just catch some fish so I could practice measuring them.

Don't forget most tournaments will provide you with an identifier at registration. Your identifier needs to be in each of your photos.

I use the Fuji XP60. Waterproof, good value...has never given me issues.

I think there was a thread here about a week ago on camera options.
