Bought a Hummingbird 998c about a year ago and installed it on a 2012 Skeeter. After a few trips to the lake I notice the depth reading is very inconsistent and quite frequently starts to read zero feet deep when traveling at 3000 to 4000 RPMs. .....the lakes are low and I like to know when I might be in trouble...... The dealer moved the transducer from just under the recess in the back attached to the fiberglass to the transom. Worked for a while, but then this past weekend noticed when water got a little rough, the depth finder would CONSISTENTLY start reading very low water i.e. 1.5 feet and then alarm at that depth for as long as I ran on plane. When I stop or water was less calm, things would be fine.

Curious, is the depth finder bad? Do I need to install a "modern day flasher" to get more real time data?

I don't know, just don't like not knowing the depth I'm cruising at on new or unfamiliar lakes.

Ideas? Thoughts?

are you using the side imaging transducer as your only one? If so its probably out of the water when running depending where you have it mounted but im pretty sure transducer is not intended to to be used on pad.. Most guys run a in hull mounted ducer along with the hd transducer for hi speed readings. Also check to make sure its tight because my buddies was loose and would move around but when idling around it would fall back o the normal position.

It will require the xp-9-20 in hull transducer and the AS SIDB Y Cable to achieve depth at high speeds......

Thanks mine will do it sometimes when I start the engine. But the only way I can get it to work again is to remove and put it back on the mount.
