With the cold weather we've been having, I would stay North of the Bridge until the water starts warming up a bit.

I'm willing to help. It's funny how unhelpful this forum can be sometimes. Lake Conroe is a tough lake to fish...and even harder to get information on. I have fished it for a little over a year now and still haven't really figured it out. I will tell you that there are thousands of brush piles in this lake. I will not tell you where they are (because I have probably only found less than 1% of them) but I can tell you they are not hard to find. I have spent many days not even fishing and just scanning for the perfect 'pile'. Of all the brush piles in this lake the ones that hold fish do not hold many from what I have learned. What I have also learned is that some of these brush piles hold some big fish (8+ lbers) and some always have small fish (usually the piles that everyone fishes). The point is that there are a lot of brush piles and you have to fish a lot of them to catch a lot of fish (lot of running and gunning). Sometimes you will get "lucky" and find 5-6 keepers on one brush pile. But the main structure (IMO) are these brush piles. I will also add that I have not been to Conroe in almost a month and I'm sure the water has probably gotten colder since then. Hopefully by the time you arrive it will have warmed up. Either way you will still find fish in brush piles. Look for them on mainlake points, secondary points, and ledges (near any spawning flats). Fish these brush piles with t-rigs, carolina rigs, and/or jigs (maybe even a deep crank). I have found that natural colors work best (green pumpkin, watermelon red, black). If the water warms rapidly (high 50s) by the time you arrive you can try fishing some docks in deeper water with a natural color swimbait or spinnerbait (the farther you skip the bait back to the bulk head the more hits you will get in my experience). Use google earth to find creek channels and try to follow the creek channel out as deep as google earth will allow you to see (dark areas on lake) and try these creek channels with carolina rigs, t-rigs, or square bills. If you see any ditches leading to these channels I would mark them also. Do not be afraid to fish the south end because of the cold. I have noticed that during these cold months that water temps haven't varied much from north to south and I have actually caught a majority of my bigger fish south of the bridge. Like I said, I don't claim to have Conroe down but I have grown to appreciate its toughness and rarely leave without catching fish. Some days are much better than others as is on many lakes. Good luck to you and be safe.

Took my son on Sunday and fished from 11am until dark. Did not get one bite. Water was 47-49 degrees. Accidentally caught a 2lb crappie and a 5lb hybrid. Tough day to say the least.

Brush piles are good if you can find them like mentioned earlier - so many out there. I typically fish (Sq Bill and spinnerbait) the dam rip rap and seven coves (lighthouse) rip rap, Palms Marina rip rap and the FM 1097 rip rap...this will produce fish and some nice ones. Always avail is Walden Marina and Bentwater Marina for numerous slips and bulk head (weighless senko or finesse jig) which should produce some takers. North of the Bridge (1097) in Peach Creek you might find some just outside the timber using C-Rig or Tx-Rig and Jigs...also throw a strike King series 5. Some days they will be aggressive and others you got to entice them. If the weather is nice, it will be fun and you never know when the big one will strike - there are big ones in Conroe! Good Luck and wear your life jacket!

KKavander...that is some very good advice. I don't fish conroe much since I live in Laporte but I think I am going to more this year. Might have to plan some trips up there just to plot and record. Thanks
