I am looking at moving my 998 up front and putting a 1198 at the console. I am not wanting to move the GPS puck to the front if I don't have to. Can the 998 run off the 1198 or does it need a seperate puck. Can it be linked together so I don't have to? What transducer will I need for my trolling motor? What cables will I need to link them together? Can I move my 596 from the front to the console and run it also? Any help would be appreciated.

The 1198 comes with a GPS antenna. Put that at the bow for the 998 if you want the best waypoint accuracy based on sonar returns. Both units come with 50 channel antennas, they may be a differect model, but they work the same.

You can use an Ethernet cable between them and share GPS antennas, transducers, other accesories and GPS data.

The transducer that comes with both is the best one. You would just need a trolling motor mount. The best mount is the Transducer Shield and Saver TM-HDsi
Humminbird has a relativly weak mount AS STM 7 that is OK if you don't fish in timber/stumps.

All three of the 596 models are not linkable with any connection so it would be a stand-alone unit. It will cross talk with the 1198 if you operate both at the same time. It will probably cross-talk with the 998 at the bow too as well as the 1198 will with the 998.

Humminbird units do not share map data with any connection. Each unit has to have its own map software.

I ran the exact same setup on my last year boat that Wayne described but with dual 1198s,even down to the transducer shield and savers....it worked amazing and you will love that setup. If you fish any lakes with stumps or structure that your TM or rear transducer may come into contact with those Savers will not let you transducer be destroyed, which can add up quick.
