A lower unit for my 1979 Evinrude 85. I think any lower unit from an 85 - 140 from 1979 to 1991 will work. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken please.

What kind of money do those old lower units cost? I've only got a grand into the boat and it's been great for the couple of years I've had it... BUT is it worth buying a lower unit and paying a mechanic to install it?

There are some clean older boas on here and it's tempting to just walk away from this one.

You can get a NEW aftermarket lower unit with a 3 yr warranty for $845 but you will also need the upper drive shaft $149. It would be a good idea to replace the water pump at the same time for $54.95.

All V4 1978-1998 with a 4-1/8 bullet diameter. 1992 and later J/E went to a 2 piece drive shaft.

Call me or PM me if you need any more help or have any questions on what will or won't work.
