What year did they go from wood transom to composite? Dry riding, deck space, handles rough water and 100% composite structure is my main concern. Well price tag has a big play in the factor as well. I had transom problems with my 34 year old boat. I repaired it myself and now I don't want any wood on the boat at all. Used is where I'm looking and I will keep the boat for 20+years. Nitros that are 3 years old are well in my price range. I have found 7 year old rangers in that Range too but Dont they Have wood in them?

If you want to have the reliability of a newer model Mercury than go with a Nitro, the best bang for your buck! Buying an older model engine is a ticking time bomb and you never know when you will have to bust out that checkbook on a new powerhead. I had a Skeeter 2004 SX200 and I prefer my 2010 Z8 when it comes to ride and fishabilty.

I know the Nitro transoms are no longer wooden, had a guy re carpet ours since it was 10 years old and the former owners never cleaned it. He said the decking was in excellent Shape. He said he has never seen a Nitro with bad decking, and he has seen a lot of Nitros and a ton of other boats.

I have fished out of plenty of skeeters I am not impressed. Obviously every deck is bigger then mine. My boat is so much of a wet ride I get wet from pulling it home on the trailer.

If you want a nitro... buy it. Dont listen to the haters. Ive owned 2 and ive owned basscat. Both brands caught fish, got me on the water and safely home. Some people just have to justify there other brand because of there insecurities. Buy whats good for you

Steve,

If you look at the bottom price it shows it priced with the 250 option for 41K

Sometimes I need to be pointed in the right direction. Lol. Thanks

Junk boat, cheap components, shoddy workmanship, keep going.

Ya,the Lund comment was a joke. I have back-trolled hours for walleye in a Lund w/northern friends. The negative comments about Nitro are not digs, they are answers to original poster. He asked. Read the post before jumping into the middle. Can't bash HIS Nitro because not only does he not own one, he has not even been in one. Nice thing about a forum is a guy like him can come on and find out others opinions(as he specifically asked for) before making a mistake. This one topic did go viral much faster then I would have ever thought though. :-) :-)

I think you are probably referring to my comment when I posted the Z8 @ the Garland store. Go back and read it again........notice the word "BASE"

lots of good things and bad things about the nitro here but one that concerns me most is the customer service seen few other threads that BPS has worst customer service of all the boat dealers and i like the nitro. I am in the market for a Boat and I know everyone has their own opionin on their boat and can't make up my mind on which brand. Maybe i just need to go test ride and fish out of all the boats, 1hr of fishing would be all i need.. 30k is my range since i couldn't justify spending more since i don't fish that much....

and how come when they put boats on clearance for last yrs model they only come off $1k at most with the depreciation value most lose on 1st year, not a good deal at all, couldn't they least come off $2500+ that would make it more enticing to buy...

i have fished out of a couple of newer nitros. the ride was ok. the main things that i noticed was grade of upolstery and carpet was not the quality of a basscat or ranger. same for lids and hinges. the trailer is another area that will be of concern on down the road. the trailer frame itself is not nearly as heavy as basscats and rangers. the boat bunks are smaller boards, and has the same lower grade carpet. i fished with tommy martin and he runs a nitro. his assessment was the nitro was a decent boat for the money. i think the hull itself will survive, but i question the longevity of seats, carpet, and trailer. just my opinion and observation.

I have a 1996 javelin which is a 17'10" boat and a deck that is about that size, I am 6'1" 290, add 6 rods or so up there and I understand that moving around is done on a as needed bases. This past Saturday I was close on pulling the trigger on a Z-7. I am not worried about resale since I figure I will run this boat 10 years, I know they say apples to apples on the price when you add the equipment but for me, add a humming bird on the front, buy your 3 battery's and you are still under 30,000. Just don't see a better deal for the dollar out there than a Z-7. I guess I will pull the trigger pretty soon, I just have to get the heart to sell my old javelin, it's been such a good little boat, kind of attached to her.
