Looking for input from those that have been to either or both. Looking for a trip for several friends. Input on lodging, pricing, fishing, etc.

Hay JR.: PM. me and I will give you Texastoby's email. Mike books fly in trips to El Salto. I do the drive in trips. His customers fish mostly for 3 days and are there for 4 nights. Priced $1,100 plus plane ticket per person.
My trips are 10 days and we fish for 6 days. My price is $3,000 per team of two and you guys get to fish out of larger Bass boats. You get the front of the boat all week.

I've fished Salto and Baccarac numerous times. Fishing Mexico is about more than catching fish. It's an experience in another culture. You will catch fish at all of the camps located on Salto, numbers and a chance at a double digit. Nobody does hospitality like Billy Chapman, but you will pay for it. If you got the cajones, there are several small towns around that have great food. It's only a short drive to the coast for some unbelievable seafood. If I had to go back right now, I would go to Terry Hollan's place on Baccarac. Accomodations are great, chances for multiple double digits are greater. There's nothing like being surrounded by mountains, watching the sun come up, and listening to the drone of gasoline powered irrigation pumps watering the marijuana plants. Those boats running across the lake with six feet of greenery on them aren't duck hunters.

furim2 nailed it but I'll add my 2 cents. My favorite is Baccarac and it isn't even close. El Salto is great, unless you have been to Baccarac. Baccarac is more remote and gets a lot less fishing pressure. Hollan's Lodge has beautiful views of the lake and there is the constant awareness that the next cast could be a real giant. Once you have fished Baccarac there is a very short list of lakes that can match it's beauty, excitement and fishing. I can't wait to go back.

I just returned form El Salto last Monday. Me and my partner fished 3.5 days. The big fish are really very hard to come by right now and that just me saying it but the entire camp. The best was 6.37 and a 5.18 they came on back to back casts. We landed about 180-200 fish but 90% were 1-2 pound range with a 3 or 4 mixed in every so often. It was my 6th trip down there and the least impressive to date for size. In fact the last three trips the size of larger bass have been in decline for me. I get fewer big fish each trip. I'll be back in Feb so I hope thing have turned around for the better. 3 hours on Fork last Sunday beat 3.5 days on El Salto for size. Go figure! I was at Anglers Inn and the service is outstanding and the food is great too.

I think I would make sure I know how good current fishing is on both. Both have cycles. Best fishing I have ever experienced was on Baccarac. But next time back it was just fair. El Salto seemed good for numbers when I went. But no big fish. But I know it cycles also.

Anybody ever been with Ron Speeds Adventures ? Just got home yesterday and what I've read above is accurate for the most part. Ron Speed Jr. is top notch. Salto is off a bit as far as big fish but you know how that goes. It's week to week.
