I recently discovered a tick tick ticking noise at the rear of my boat while it was in my storage unit. Since then I hear it all the time. I assume it has to do with the rear transducer, but why is it happening constantly, even with everything powered off and graph disconnected? Anyone else experience this?

You've got power coming through something that shouldn't be on. Maybe the charger? Maybe the transducer or the gps antannae puck? Either way, I would install one of those master power switches that you can turn off and it shuts everything off to the entire boat. These switches are great so that you don't accidentally leave something on that runs down your batteries. If you leave a bilge or aerator pump running it could burn it up. Well worth the money.

If you have your battery charger hooked up, it could also be that. I had that happen on a 3 bank charger on my Champion, but it went away when I unplugged the batteries. Turns out that the batteries were fully charged and I could unplug it. Don't know if you have the same situation, but the Master Power switch is a good idea anyway, as Brian said. Any marine shop should have one, even some auto stores, but I do not think I would buy an auto part for a boat, not made to the same specs. But, you do what you feel you need too. Hope this helps.

Well that's another possibility, Thad. I have the same setup with the 3 bank charger. I leave it on the charger most all the time. But it even does the ticking after a day on the water and not fully charged. Not sure if that should tell me anything, but think the master switch is a good idea, even if that's not the real reason for doing what it's doing. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction ya'll!

The Academy store right there in Denton should have one. I've seen them at several Academy stores in the Houston & College Station area.

I don't remember the exact brand name, but it will be on the aisle with all the other electrical switches. It will be similar to the one in the link below, but not exactly like it.

The one at Academy will be red with probably a silver face plate on the front and a black knob.

If I had to guess based on what you said.. sounds like bilge pump or live well pump to me. Especially if everything is disconnected from your electronics.

You might consider this approach, taken from a different forum.

Seriously... if the sound is still present with the battery disconnected, it's probably a good idea to determine if it's related to the TRIM, excess pressure in the gearcase, or metal expansion/contraction.

Place a piece of plywood on the floor under the engine, and move the trim down until the skeg rests on the plywood (this relieves the stress on the trim system, to rule out that possibility).

Loosen the VENT screw for gear lube (the upper one), and relieve any pressure in the gearcase.

Did EITHER cause the sound to CEASE (if so, which one)?

Have you considered that your wife may have planted a tracking device on there ? LOL

If you have the lss 2 structure scan transducer then that may be it. Mine ticks unless I unplug it ..I need to install a power switch that will cut off everything like mentioned for you to do.

I had this same problem when I first installed my structure scan. Ran the power through an open switch on the console so I can kill the power to it when i'm not using it.

I'm puzzled too, have a 2008 Basscat Classic with 200 Merc Optimax and I heard this ticking noise once at the launch ramp when I turned on my battery shutoff switch. Checked on elec switches and nothing was on but ticking continued until I turned the shutoff switch to off pos. It started again when I turned it back on. Finally stopped after 3-4 cycles of on and off. Anyone who discovers the cause I would really appreciate a post on it. Will post on Basscat website too to see if anyone there has an answer.
