Got a chance to go fishing with Fishnlz today and boy was it windy and chilly. We only caught 1 fish, spot, on a rattling jig in 12' of water with timber. Missed two others that bit the tail off my shaky head worm. Kevin didn't have any bites, but he was fishing more moving baits than I was. I got to show him parts of the lake that he had never fished before, so it was an okay day. We didn't start until 10:30, because of the 20 degree morning temps. We saw water temps from 42 to 44, with the colder temps in the creeks (more shallow). Water clarity was somewhat stained for AH, you could see a jig down in about 5 or 6' of water, but it better be a white jig after that. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

thad I live in levelland and just got a boat and w AH being the closest to us that's where ill be going most often. ive always been one of the pain in the butts on a jetski on that lake but now that im older and wiser!!! im looking to fish the lake instead of play. are the winter months a good time there? also is it cheaper to buy the annual pass going at least once a month compared to paying gate fees?

For a non Lubbock resident, it's $8/person + $8 for the boat. Combination annual is $80 for non-resident, so if you go 5 times, you've paid for it, any more than that you start saving money.

No fish is too good for the grease.

Mebo31,

Sorry I am late, but the pass makes more sense. If you want a backseater that knows the lake, let me know as I am retired and can go most any day. Fishing in the winter is a tough nut to crack, unless you can find a school of fish and get them turned on. That can happen, but you have to either know where they are or get lucky. Let me know if you want a backseater.

Respectfully,

Thad Rains

Steve, bring your son in May and June when the spots start schooling like crazy at the dam. My 4 year old was catching fish last year. Zebco 33 and H H spinner. He loved it.

I gave up on AH
I go elsewhere
spots have overrun the lake
and by 10:30 you had watch out for the jetskis and power boats
and since you havent caught anything by 10:30 anyway it time to pack up and let them have it

That Bass dont care if your in a Ranger boat or a metal bathtub with a trolling motor mounted to it
if he aint biting neither will do you any good

They are still there. Caught this one and another about 2lbs in 40-42 degree water last Saturday. Beautiful lake, too.

I agree AH is a tough...and can be tough anytime of the yr, but it is a nice lake to fish and relax before it warms up to much and the play boats take over...there are some toads in the lake just got to grind them out...good luck and enjoy

if you can't catch it, hunt it, or hump it....piss on it and walk away!
