I turned 60 this past November. My wife and I are fortunate in that we can work from home, she works for a large company and I work for myself. We are seriously thinking of changing up our living. While we live in Lakeside Village and have our boat slip here in Harbor Bay on Hubbard we are thinking about finding a lakefront property. What lake would you pick here in Texas? I like my fishing target, sandies, hybrids and striper, but we don't want to isolate ourselves in a totally remote location. Hubbard being located in the Dallas metro-mess has very few lakefront opportunities. What lake would you pick?

Tawakoni
PK
What other lakes make the list if your target is sandies, hybrids and striper?
Richland Chambers is a choice if you don't include stripers.

Go Fish Now, I like the idea of PK and Granbury too, but both of those have had the Golden Alage problem haven't they? There is lots of lakefront homes for sale on Granbury with docks at very good prices.

Richland Chambers is an awesome White Bass and Catfish fishery, but doesn't have the Hybrids that Cedar Creek and Tawakoni have. It also has great lake property that has been managed/restricted much better than others. Property values maintain or hold versus what you see around other lakes. You don't have the Tent Trailers next to the $250,000 lake homes like CC. RC also doesn't have the Drug Trafficking (Meth) and problems that you see around the others.

RC does have water level problems just like others as Texas goes through continual drought situations. This is going to continue and about half the time you'll have "beachfront" instead of "lakefront" property, and won't be able to use your boathouse.

An issue for many is that at RC, you are remote...1 1/2 hours from DFW and 2 1/2 hours from Houston. You have to drive 30 miles to the closest Walmart at Corsicana, Palestine or Athens. Also, keep in mind the same applies to Medical Facilities especially as you get older. Tyler is the closest quality care and it's 90 miles. Might as well go ahead and pass on if you plan on a heart attack and going to Corsicana or Fairfield for medical assistance smile.

I looked at a lot of Lakes before buying at RC in 1994. We don't live there but have a Lake Home/Business there, and live about 85 miles from it in Whitehouse.

The absolute BEST thing about RC is that it's still a "Well Kept Secret" after 25 years. I may not see another boat on the Lake on a Weekday from Labor Day till March. Even the Weekends and Spring/Summer lake traffic is verrrrry low. I used to see more Boats on little Lake Joe Pool on a Saturday than I would see in an entire Summer month on RC. As it becomes more well known, you can still put a LOT of boats on a 45,000 acre Lake.:)

Check out the South Side of RC along FM 416 for your property with the most "character"....Trees, contour, lakefront, etc.

Good Luck!

Thanks,

Good Luck!

A good friend of mine bought a house in Streetman with a nice boathouse and beautiful yard. He is about to sell the place because he hasn't been able to use his boathouse in forever and he said his big 24' deckboat has not been in the water since Oct 2012. He does have a nice beach!!

Good Fishing To Ya,
Ruben

Terry only problem with lake front is if this drought keeps going there is not many boat houses that have water under them.(or for very few months)
Tawokoni ,and Cedar Creek would get my vote.

Cedar Creek has a lot going for it, if you can fish during the week it is hard to beat.

Some great neighborhoods with "reasonable" prices and some that are not so hot.

If you are interested let me know, snaggin' Steve has a friend that is the leading real estate guy here and he doesn't waste your time.

It ain't easy making it look easy.

We are also thinking of this this, I am just N of Tawakoni now but while my health is still good I am really thinking about Texoma, for me there is no other choice.
