I guess I'm lucky I live about 12 miles from Martin Creek witch is a power plant lake so in the winter time I just fish it , there lot of local cold water lakes but this time of year they are tough fishing.

Been tough for me to, and power plant lakes are nice to go to in the winter time I just hate having to fight with the traffic, there's sometimes I can slip to a power plant lake on a weekday while everybody else is having to work

It's just tough right now, I have had several days in the past few weeks that were awesome for size and numbers. Today and the 2 previous trips I had like 5 bites total.

It's winter, and I think the water temps dropping drastically a few weeks back hurt the fishing.

Cheer up, Spring is near laugh

Only power plant lake near me is Fairfield, and well, I guess I can't do much worse than zero... Maybe I'll give it a shot.

I fished Hubbard today and didn't catch anything. It's these pretty days that are tough for fishing (for me at least). I need to start toughing it out and start fishing the days when it's nasty out. I fished with a spoon and jerk bait all day, except for the last 30 min pitching jigs to stumps. It was nice to be on the water though.

when the water temps get down to low to mid 40s I don't think the bass digest there prey very quickly and hence don't feed as often.

I guess misery loves company - these posts are making me feel better about my recent trips!

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Reading these comments...some of those lakes aren't exactly world class fisheries even in the best times of the year lol. But I'm a firm believer that fishing in general has changed over the last few years. My average (numbers wise) has noticeably gone down and I don't believe that I've gotten any WORSE as a fisherman. My opinion? It's a combination of pressure and low water levels...which if you think about it, kinda go hand in hand. I know a lot of guys talk about how they like lower water cause the fish will congregate on certain pieces of structure, but in my opinion there is a point where that formula starts to back fire. And I do believe many lakes (especially in north texas) have gone past that point and are starting to feel the negative effects. Lower water means a loss of habitat, especially effecting the spawn. And remember, thats not just the bass spawn but also what those bass eat! Plus lower water = less water to fish = more pressure on the water left. Just a few thoughts and I'm not saying I'm an expert but even the few guides I've spoken with have said it is becoming harder and harder to find and pattern fish. I'm seriously worried about what the next 5-10 years holds. Wouldn't surprise me if it got ugly around these parts...

If I can give you any advice.....listen to this. Whatever bait you have the most confidence in. Fish as slow as you can stand it, then fish it a little slower. Preferably it would be a jig or worm of some bulk. It needs to fall as slow as possible. Fish dont feed as aggresively in the winter, only when they need to or the right presentation is put in front of them. It may have to be put in front of them more than once to make them mad enough to attack it. I tend to like something with just a little chartruese on the end of it. You may feel nothing except a heavy line, or your line may just move a bit. If you catch one, keep fishing in that spot, there may be several fish there. I have been where you are bro, but keep at it, it will get better.

Fishing on cold water lakes are more or less just practice casting, flipping, pitching etc... learning to read the graph or just checking new spots while the lakes are low. If you do catch some your doing something right and the weather is just right. Don't get discouraged and give up. It will make you a better fisherman when you catch them. As for the hot water lakes, sometimes we have to go just to get the urge of reeling in some fish. Remember it's called catching not fishing. Don't give up.
