I was looking for a place to do some kayak fishing today about 45 minutes east of Houston on highway 10. I stopped at a place called Wallisville Heritage Park at exit 806. Signs were posted no fishing allowed (even tho it looks like one of the best fishing holes I've ever seen). I didn't have my phone on my to snap a picture but there was a HUGE black swan at the end of the pier. I've never seen one before or even knew they existed here in the USA. Is this just a super rare sighting or what?

They are domesticated. People put them on lakes and ponds for the heck of it.

Black swans are originally from Australia. There were native black swans in New Zealand but they were wiped and have been reintroduced. Because black swan can fly quite well they have escaped and so some black swans are free. It is interesting that black swans are mentioned in literature apparently before they were actually discovered.
