Dad pasted away on the 20th and we Buried him Saturday. Dad is who got me into fishing and I loved going with him. Below is a poem I wrote of one of our trips.

Fishing with Dad

At the end of a long summer, early in the fall,
finishing a week of work, ready for natures call.
Nature was calling me fishing, this there was no doubt,
so Dad and I went to Michigan City fishing, for Scamania trout.

On this Friday evening, when we decided to go,
we loaded rods and reels, some night crawlers and roe.
We arrived at Michigan city just before the sun had set,
in no time Dad hooked a fish, furiously I grabbed the net.

This fish struck hard, nearly taking rod and reel,
normally they bite soft, and not with so much zeal.
Dad quickly grabbed the rod and fought this fish to the shore,
the net against the wall, in a box filled with many a lure.

If Dad was going to catch this fish, really was not a good bet,
as all the lure in this half closed box got tangled in the net.
Giving Dad a a really good fight, it didn't seem any time,
this fish had reached the rocks and in them broke the line.

Choice words I heard Dad say, but seldom directed at me,
but I guess I deserved, the ire coming from he.
After it was over and all was said and done,
fish on I heard Dad yell as he hooked another one.

One Scamania on the stringer, "fish on" I heard Dad shout,
as he had hooked another, this one a big brown trout.
This big brown got the attention of everyone on the shore,
as we put it on the stringer and continued fishing for more.

Dad caught two big Scamania and one really big brown,
before we quit fishing and left this northern town.
Considering all, we really had a very good day,
but this story is actually about the one that got away.

Or it's about a special day fishing, that really made me glad,
as God only knows how I truly enjoy fishing with my Dad.

It always sucks loosing someone you love. I feel your pain my friend.

I'd give anything to fish with my dad. The last time I did that I was to young to cherish it as much as I wished I had at the time. My dad passed away coming up on 8 years ago now.

Just remember and cherish those times that ya'll did get to spend together.

My condolences Lvick... I had a scare about a couple months ago with my own father (he had a heart attack, and had to be medevaced from dutch harbor alaska to anchorage alaska)

He made it through ok, but that was my first real scare with a parent... I couldn't beleive how much it freaked me out...

Sorry again, and stay strong

Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers. Fork Fanatic, I am Larry Vick, Lance's Dad, so this is his grandfather. It was time, he was 93 years old and been married for 71 years. Would have been nice to take him crappie fishing one more time. Sorry for the confusion. Again thanks to all and have a great day.
