You've probably seen my threads asking for tips and fishing spots.... I hadn't had any luck over the past week, and being new to fishing I really had no idea what I was doing wrong. Today brought me these fellas... Today was absurdly windy at the lake and I really had no optimism. I used a simple worm on a hook for both of these guys, letting it sit on the bottom with two sinkers. I threw the sinkers on to get it down and out of the wind/current as fast as possible. Anyways, just thought I'd share my small success of the day.I might have caught more, but these two were threatening to fall through my fish cage. Can anyone tell me what kind of cats these are? I know the angle might be hard for proper identification, but I'm curious. Thanks, Mojo

Congrats but make sure you know species so you can check legal length limits for certain fish and lakes.

Nice cats and a super job. The more you fish the better you will get. Keep fishing and most important of all have fun enjoying the outdoors.

Thanks. Ban, I checked to make sure there were no special limits for the lake I was at. There weren't. And the state minimum for catfish is 12 inches. These guys were around 18 in ea.
I'm just not sure of their exact species.

They look like channel cats to me...Congrats "Channel catfish are easily distinguished from all others, except blue catfish, by their deeply forked tail fin. Unlike flathead catfish, the upper jaw projects beyond the lower jaw. Coloration is olive-brown to slate-blue on the back and sides, shading to silvery-white on the belly. Typically, numerous small, black spots are present, but may be obscured in large adults. The anal fin has 24-29 soft rays, in contrast to the blue catfish which always has 30 or more rays in the anal fin." http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/landwater/water/aquaticspecies/inland.phtml
