Mmmm snake-kabobs. Tastes like a cross between fish and chicken according to my Google search.

In hindsight I should've chopped his head off with my bubba blade instead of throwing rocks at it.

Nice snake. LOL. I bet it made you hop a little bit. I have noticed that the diamond backs in Lake Lewisville don't have any fear of people. They have been around so many that they don't slither away very easy. Have to hit them with an oar to get them to move.

Surprisingly, no. The snake didn't bother me or make me jump. I have always been under the impression if you don't mess with snakes they generally leave you alone. I heard some splashing and wondered why the fish was moving so much. I turned on my headlamp and snapped a picture. I threw a few pebbles at it to scare it away. The snake moved a bit but didn't let go. I picked up another rock about the size of a softball and threw it at the snake. It made a huge cloud of dust in the water. After the dust settled the snake was gone. I examined the fish and noticed fang marks. I wasn't sure of the species of the snake and wasn't going to chance eating the catfish and released him before I left. It swam ok but was awfully sluggish.

I estimate that the snake was about 5ft long. Any idea as to the species of the snake? Is it a diamondback like ChuckP suggests?
