Have you applied for the permits? All the info can be found here: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/devils-river

Currently the river is flooded. By next month I would think it would be back to being dry but maybe not. TPWD was not issuing permits because to flow was about half of the minimum requirements before the recent rains. You may be doing more dragging than paddling and the trip will truly be hell. I've applied for 5 permits for March of 2014 and they are still waiting to see if the river will be accessible then, before they issue them. I applied for them in April. There are requirements for going down the river also. Its no longer a load up and jump in the river type trip. I believe TPWD checks you before you get on the river to make sure you meet those requirements.

I thought that if you had the permit, you got access to park, launch, and take out at any of the 3 TPWD sites: Bakers, SNA Norte and SNA South. Have they changed the rules?

Don't get me wrong his trips are awesome and you will catch a lot of fish and eat well but he doesn't do the traditional bakers crossing to geralds trip. I think gerald bailey is the only outfitter that does that trip. I'm glad I did the trip before all these regulations came about. The water falls and rapids were a lot of fun.

Does river run only put in at Rough canyon and paddle upstream? I have heard lots of good reviews on his trips.

I need to hurry up and do this trip before I get too old. Think I'll shoot for spring if the water level is right.
