A friend of mine and I are planning on going to the galveston area. I use to go wade fishing with my dad when I was younger, then I started to do a lot of jetty fishing. I have a learned a ton over the years and am wanting to change things up and go back into the water. With that being said here are my questions:

If I plan on wading both the surf and parts of the bay are waders okay or should I just wear waders in the bay? I plan on also wearing a wading belt.

where should I attach my stringer? How should I attach my stringer? I know never to tie it around your waist for obvious reasons.

Out of these places If you were to chose to wade where would you chose?
Texas city mosquito island, Bolivar's crystal beach, or galveston sea wall?

Aiming for trout, flounder, reds, whiting, sheepshead. Also planning to bring the fly rod along with me.

Can one become a master at fishing? Pshh... yes...

Not sure I'd want to be wearing waders in the surf, too easy to get knocked down and that would be that. I know some do it, hardier souls than me.

Wading belt for stringer, net, etc is pretty dang handy.

If fishing the surf, forget the waders. Unless you're going to be in knee deep water, the first wave will soak you and your waders will retaining the water on you (which would be heavy and dangerous).

Attach it to your wading belt and make sure you got at least 15 feet of stringer rope (in case a shark comes by to snatch your catch). It's good to carry a sharp knife as well (again, just in case).

All those places are good.
However, it really depends on the season & tides.
Just because you hit a limit one day on TCD, doesn't mean they'll be there tomorrow.

Probably the most important advice:

- Either get RayGuards, or at least slide your feet along the bottom when you're going in/out/around the water. A stingray will ruin your day and you'll need to be on the way to the ER.

- Know the tides and current. Not a single year passes by without seeing news on TFF that another person got sucked in and drowned.

so what about taking live bait like shrimp with me? Is using a floating bait bucket alright?

Yes, I used the trolling bait bucket.
Same as the stringer, attach it to your wading belt.

But its been several years that I've used live bait. I just got tired of live shrimp dying off after just 2 hours, along with all the rough fish taking the bait.

Someone here will chime in and show you a method to keeping the shrimp alive longer. I use lures 100% of the time now.

NEVER tie a stringer to a wade belt. Not even with loose square or granny. Allways use a wade belt with a slot that you can push the needle into. If a shark decides to take it, you won't have time to untie CHIT. It can be game over. This has happened to numerous people.

No waders in the surf... ditto above. You won't need waders in galveston until prob sometime in NOV. Unless you go on a cloudy day that has a cold front. Then at least add a jacket.

Do check out simms neoprene guard socks, they'll keep all that nasty shell out of your wade boots. It's really annoying.. use those even if you're just using hightop.

Okay awesome thanks for the tips. I figured tying a stringer to the wade belt would also be dangerous. I guess ill just be bringing my wading boots and will look into ray guards although I always remember to shuffle my feet.

Last question just to verify. when people say fish the first or second gut, they are referring to the spaces in between the sand bars?

Yup, the guts are the spaces between the sand bars. The first gut is also called the wade gut.

You wouldn't find me wading anywhere there has been too many sharks being caught around the beaches of Galveston!

Sometime next month...you're going to step off that boat and go SHEEZIODS that's cold. Then you'll know when it's time...
