I've got a 2000 Champion 193 DC Elite with sea star steering. I have a leak in the unit under the console that appears to be coming from the input shaft under the steering wheel. I was given an estimate of $240 to $260 to replace the seal from the dealer that i purchased the boat from. My question is,has anyone else had this issue & is it something that can be done without any special tools? Are these steering systems difficult to bleed? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Contact Sea Star. I had the same problem and I was sent the seals to fix the problem at no cost. I fixed mine in about an hour with no special tools.

Do it yourself, takes about twenty minutes. Everything you need is in the seal kit. Except the oil. Might take another hand to bleed and fill,

...not difficult to change out yourself. While you are at it be sure and check the gland seals on the other end at the engine for leakage. Been replacing quite a few on boats lately.

...so good it tastes like it died screaming!
