I ran out of dip yesterday and figured it would be a good time to quit (again). When I'm working or just doing stuff outside I feel the need for a dip just to dip...kinda hard to explain but not what I would consider an addiction. Several years ago I went through some addiction stuff so maybe I'm just trying to compare two totally different things.

Is this just what quitting tobacco feels like? I don't have any other problems other than feeling the need to have a dip.

Not hard to explain at all. Know exactly what you're talking about. Sometimes after I eat heavy meal, I want a dip. Today, I was watching a weigh-in and saw several guys dipping- I wanted a dip. Sun peeking through trees in a quiet cove- I want a dip. Thats addiction. Just change your focus. You'd be surprised how quickly you forget about the urge. I quit 12/25/2012 and not a day goes by that I don't think about it at least once. But its easier today say no than it was 6 months ago. Just put it down and walk away from it. You'll be glad you did- over and over and over and over. Good luck.

Thanks. It only lasted a week then I lost a brand new 100 dollar life jacket the day I bought it which lead to a can of dip.

Just finished the can so here we go again. I'm having some medical issues right now so I think quitting is really a need more than a want at this point.

Just put it down. I still fight the cravings and probably will for a long time. He'll I want one right now but I'm too far in to turn back now. Just get to that point- whatever it is for you. Good luck.

Nicotine is a powerful-powerful drug. It takes a few days to a week to get it out of your system. That's the hardest time when quitting. After that you deal more with the social aspect of your "habit."
You know.....wanting a dip when sitting in the deer blind, or at the lake....or when standing out behind your truck BS'ing with your buddies...who are dipping. But the habit part is really pretty easy to get over compared to the actual nicotine addiction.

Don't kid yourself....nicotine is every bit as addictive as crack cocaine in my opinion.

It's been about two weeks or more since my last dip, I've lost count but from the day I quit I haven't had a craving or really even thought about it.

Hopefully it stays this way I'm just surprised that this time around it seemed like an immediate transformation.

Then you're ready Skimo. The cravings will come but they may go away faster after you deny them. Keep it up. I am at 8 months now and am so glad I put the can away.
