My tach has always worked perfectly. This past weekend, it was reading at about a bias of +30% or so. I.E. - with motor off, tach shows 0. Normal idle is about 700 but now shows 1000. Boat normally planes out at about 3000, but now it shows 4000 when the bow falls. Normal max RPM is 5800, but now it reads over 7K. I checked the prop hub and it is good. My GPS said the boat was traveling at the speeds I am used to and the boat/motor felt fine. There was no slipping, erratic running, etc.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Ron

First thing I would do is re-set the poles on the tach. Small plain screwdriver, push in, turn left, turn right, turn back to original position and release. Other than that could be a regulator.

2000 225 Mercury. Motor has always ran perfect. Yesterday it died at the ramp and didn't want to start. Would start if you choked it but wouldn't keep running. Gas problem?
