Am thinking about getting into kayaking and was wanting someone's personal opinions on this yak. Ive read some reviews, but would rather have some opinions from "in the field" real fisherman. Thanks in advance gus!

We currently have a Lime Malibu Stealth 12 and a Mango X-Factor in inventory for you to inspect. In addition to Malibu, we carry brands from eleven other manufacturers. You could make a one stop trip to our store and see the best selection in the Metroplex.

I have the x-13 from malibu and they make very good kayaks! Everything is setup very well and placed about perfect as far as hatches and storage. The stability is pretty impressive. I can stand in mine easily. Not going to be throwing cast nets or anything but can stand and fish. I have leaned mine over to the point is was getting water over the side but it did not flip until i leaned way over. Its tracks straight and handles wind and waves very well. Max speed while loaded for me is 5.1 mph. Avg cruise is about 3.

4 best things to buy stake out pole8 ft, crate for your stuff, and a drift sock. You can use the rectagle crates in the malibu kayaks and can fit 4 virticla rod holders on the crate. And last but most important is a good seat! 10-12 hours out there on a bad seat you will hate yourself.

I only use scupper plugs in cold calm water. If you plug the holes and get water in then it stays in. Sitting in cold water all day sucks.

MALIBUTEE X-13.

I just got a new Stealth 12 so I can comment on that. The 14 has the same width and cockpit so the extra length comes from the rear hatch. I'm what you may call a seasoned kayak angler owning probably 3 dozen kayaks over the past 8 years. The stability on this kayak is outstanding however, it comes at the cost of a serious lack of speed and glide. It paddles like a Slayer 14 IMHO. It has little hull slap and tracks very well , even in the wind. Yes you can stand in it, but it is very difficult to get up from a seated position as you sit waaaay down in it. My solution was to build a high seat and it works great that way. I got this yak for the salt so the live well is awesome! No need to power plumb it, just open the drain plug and it'll fill 3/4 up and transfer water in/out as you paddle. Hatch leakage is a thing of the past as all hatches are water tight as can be. The built in rod holders up front are too far away without really stretching to get them... I wish they left them off as they are pretty useless to me. The rear tank well does take on a bit of water so scupper plugs should be used. The foot well and seat area are bone dry unless water breaks over the bow, then it'll drain out. The shipping weight on my 12'er was #86 and I believe it! I suspect the 14 will come in at a hunny so be advised...they are not even close to what the specs say. Overall, I'm pleased with my Stealth kayak. I got it new online through West Marine in the color I wanted for $974 out the door but be advised , it took almost 2 months to get it as Malibu can't build these kayaks fast enough.

I paddled a stealth 14. Not a bad ride. Its heavy but it hauls a lot of weight. Cool yak. There are sooooo many optoins out there. As said before demo, demo, demo.

If you like the Stealth, you will probably also like the X-factor. Prob one of the most stable yaks out there and has the bait tank and nice storage right in front of the paddler. The new ones also come with Lowrance compatible scuppers. Last time I was at Mariner, they had a new mango X in stock - really nice boat in the right color IMO.
