It took me a while to locate it but I found it under the starter. Do I have to pull the starter to change out the solenoid?

Dropping the bottom cowling is easiest way.

Next day, same job (putting in the starter solenoid) and I find out trying to lower the cowling is harder than taking out the solenoid.

I guess I better make a video on this in case anyone else ever runs into the same solenoid from he77!!!

Cowling unbolts and you can remove just that side. I don't understand what could be so hard. Welcome to the world of a boat mechanic.

I can't believe I took an hour to take it out and I've spent 4 hours and haven't made it back in yet.

I WILL be looking for those bolts to release the cowling.
I don't want to be a boat mechanic, but Rockwall said I couldn't bring it in until next week and I wanted to be fishin'...Butch at West was my mechanic and now I don't have one that likes to keep me fishin' - you know what I mean.

Look at where the 2 cowlings come together front, back and under. The cowlings bolt to each other.

I guess that sun turned off my thinking yesterday. I looked and couldn't see anything but sure nough, you walk to the starboard side of that motor and right there looks like three bolts.

now if I pull that apart enough to slide that starter and solenoid on, the kitchen sink won't fall out of the bottom of the cowling when it separates, will it?
