Depending on how fast you want to get into a kayak, I would recommend either wait until the Fall GTG and do some Demoing or hook up with one of the kayaking guys on the forum. Theres allot of guys welling to let you go out with them as well as let you demo one of their kayaks, including myself.
When you say youre a big guy, what does that mean? Whats your height, and weight?

I am 250 and 6,2. I have a Ride 115. You may want to trial run a Ride 115. Rated for 500 lbs and it is very stable. You may find some on sale now as a new model 115X is coming in August. Rich

I'm really liking my Perception Sport Caster 12.5... I bought it new for $550. I was looking at more expensive yaks but figured I would go with an entry level just to make sure that I liked fishing from a kayak first! I'm 5'11" and 205. It's stable as hell with me and my plunder in it.

Haha! Depends on your wallet I guess! I am absolutely fanatical about kayak fishing now so I am starting to look at some of the bad boys (A Hobie Mirage 12.5 may be in my future! lol). I have no regrets with starting out with a cheapie though.. I have no doubt that I could sell my Caster for a good price if it comes down to it.
