I just purchased a 597ci HD DI. Got it all connected and seems to be functioning great (GPS Signal / good sonar signal).

I just don't know how to interpret what I am seeing on the screen? How to use all the bells and whistles.

The manual hasn't been much help to me.

Would anyone be willing to give this "dummy" a tutorial on the water?

I live in Athens, TX about a minute from Lake Athens. But I am willing to drive to another location for help.

Thanks to anyone willing.

I was using a Fish mark 480. The images (fish symbols & brush/bottom) don't appear anything like the new images on the HB.

You can teach yourself by using the combo view of 2D sonar and Down Imaging. Down Imaging will show in detail what the 2D sonar is displaying.

I also have a 597. What you probably need first (me to) is for someone to tell you what settings need to be changed for optimum performance. All my settings are "default" and I know that the guys change some of the settings to make images better. Anyone???

You Tube! Great help. The 597 should have the same features as the bigger units.

clifshot, there is a Yahoo group for side & down imaging, it may help you with what you see. I know on mine after 3 years I still scratch my head sometimes.

Yahoo Side Imaging Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sideimaginggroup/

For 2D Settings they will be a little different but this should help some: http://youtu.be/kPXomXW6ioE

This is some DI Tips for SI unit but for DI only set to 455kHz for the widest coverage and then adjust chart speed and Sensitivity to your liking: http://youtu.be/bs8dlOVHXJ8
