Depends on time of year and how deep you want it to go. For swimbaits I use the Gene Larew sweet swimmers. Next best is the smaller zoom swimming flukes

You may wanna get the 1/4 oz heads or smaller for top and 1/4 on bottom . Try any swimbait , also mix it up with a big grub on a couple hooks.

The Berkley Havoc grass pigs work good too. Great price, 2.99$ at most places sometimes cheaper.

I just started trying the Storm Wildeye Swim Shad lures, as it eliminates the need to buy separate jig heads and soft plastic swim baits. I think they hold up better as well. I'm using the 3 inch version in Natural Shad and Olive Shad colors. They run about $3.00 for a pack of 3, depending on where you buy them.

Jim I like the Storm baits also for ease of rigging for open water use. For timber, I use Zoom Swimming Flukes on swimbait hooks either weighted or unweighted depending on the depth/speed needed. This one has 4-3" baits and 1-4" bait. Sometimes I'll change the center one to the 5" to add a little more weight.

The wild eyes do work great too, also has a soft hook which makes them easier to pull free when you get hung up.

I'm hoping to go to lake Hamilton in September, do y'all think running a rig like that would be good for clear water?? I would assume so ESP if the baitfish are gonna be schooling more and the bass should be moving more shallow. But I've never really fishing with an A-rig before. I've heard and seen so much on them that I couldn't pass on it when I was at bass pro.
Also what rods and reels are y'all running on them? I have a rod smith 7' MH with a 5.3 ratio that I use for my DD22s. Do y'all think this will work fine for it or should I look into getting a different set up for it.

You will need a Heavy or Ex Heavy rod,, Better yet There is a few companies that make a A Rig Rod,,, I was using a X Heavy Flipping stick and did ok, but I went to a Kistler KLX A-Rig rod and it made a WORLD of difference in getting wore out in a few hrs to now I can throw it all day without any problem.

About 2 months ago I was on an A-Rig bite that was crazy! We spent 2 solid weekends throwing nothing but A-Rigs. They were fairly light Yumbrella rigs with 4" Berkley Shad (they come pre-rigged at Wal-Mart). We threw an A-Rig A LOT! The first weekend we were using heavy action rods. At the end of the weekend, our wrists and elbows were both hurting. The next weekend and every weekend after from now on, we throw them on Medium Heavy rods. By using the lighter action rod, it can load up in the cast and do the work for you. It doesn't require you to use your arms as much. I'm telling you...you will get sore with a heavy action rod. Let the softer rod do the work for you.

J.L. Smith- Looks like your fishing the college FLW???
But yes, the A-rig works best in clearer water. This should be a good lake for it.

I want too! Hopefully everything works out, I just joined the bass club in Lubbock so if they aren't gonna send anyone I'm gonna hook onto my boat and go! Seeing how they don't allow a practice day and I've never fished anything past Sam Rayburn I'm just trying to get all the information I can! How'd you know? @bissett
