I bought the Hydrowave KVD from Bass Pro (Grapevine) last Saturday, installed it last SUnday and went to the lake with it for the first time yesterday. I fished at the same lake last Saturday morning as well as yesterday- same locations on the lake too.
The install wasn't bad at all but it took me about 2 hours. That is because I had to remove the trolling motor foot pedal and route the wires on my Basscat so it looked good and clean. It was pretty easy to install. I had to buy some screws to mount the bracket because I didn't want to use the velcro. It should come with screws IMO. If I had to do the install again it would be a 30-45 minute deal.
We went the the lake yesterday for some earlier morning topwater fishing. We got on the lake about 6:20AM. I put down the trolling motor and turned on the Hydrowave. Seriously, within 30-45 seconds there was shad surfacing near the bow of the boat. This was almost humorous because I was just telling my friend I was pretty skeptical about the Hydrowave and was prepared to take it back to Bass Pro if I thought it was a marketing scam. We caught quite a few fish on buzz baits along the shore. As we moved from location to location the the minute the Hydrowave was turned on we'd get some kind of baitfish activity near the boat. Sometimes it was 20 yards to the side of the boat, sometimes it was right by the trolling motor, but there was always some kind of bait fish activity.
A couple hours into our trip we heard a loud splash and caught a big gar whacking a baitfish right next to the trolling motor. We looked at each other and laughed.
So, after one, 3 hour trip to the lake I am 100% impressed with this technology. I can't guarantee it makes you catch more fish but it most definitely brings baitfish activity near the boat. There is no other way to explain it. 7 days earlier on the same lake, same time, I had no baitfish activity I saw anywhere on the lake.
It was pretty still yesterday so I had the volume on 4. I used the Continuous Power Fish setting. I think i may replace the tie wraps it came with for some metal hose clamps to hold the speaker on the trolling motor. The speaker moved around quite a bit.

There is always a place and time to use them. I have had two and believe in them, right place right time, I have noticed that when i mark schools of bait fish the unit will call them to it, from around twenty five yards or so. I will keep using mine.

I have had one for about a year now and love it. the display has not work for the last couple of months so I have to listen to it to know what sound I am on but not having it fixed is my fault. I just have not got out of the boat long enough to call and have it fixed.

I hope that little review was helpful. I felt compelled to chime in since I read about 100 reviews/posts all over the web before I bought it. I think if you buy one and don't see anything strange happening that may be a fluke. I am not sure what the difference is between the regular unit and the KVD. The guy at Bass Pro said it had a better speaker and a few more settings. For $40 more I said may as well go all out!!

Great report, I have had the same success with mine. NO GIMMICK at all, it works 98% of the time.

I understand the Idea, but the packages confuse me, Regular package, add on KVD package crawfish package. do they add together or one at a time. Which one is best for Texas Lakes. I want to purchase this but only want to get what I need. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

The KVD package is built and I believe per GeneTx it is a BPS exclusive. I have the add on chip. It has to be plugged in and doesn't transfer over to the hard drive. It would be kind of like putting a SD card into your graph.
But, more importantly. Gene at Hydrowave are the best people in the world to work with. I purchased a KVD chip at the Fun n' Sun Tackle Show. It never worked. Gene sent me a new one. Then early this summer my head unit started fogging up. Gene sent me a new one. However, it wouldn't except the extras on the KVD chip. So, just to make sure on everything Gene sent me an whole new setup. A new Head Unit and KVD chip. After mailing everything back. I will have to get a new power cord it looks like because of a short. I have total faith in the company. Gene even sent me a new speaker after operator error caught the cord on a stump and ripped the cord in half.
Not, mention how impressed I am with it. Basically being a shallow water fisherman and continuing this throw the summer on Fork. It turns the shad on shallow around us and many of the bass that lurking close by will make a run and show themselves to make an attack on an easy meal. Keep up the good work. I am looking forward to seeing the new Shad Spawn info that you told me about. Good Fishing!

Thanks, I understand a little better so the basic package is preloaded and you add on the KVD sound in the separate chip. so you can now chose 12 sounds on your unit when you are out fishing?
