Let me start off by apologizing to Lowrance. I put them thru the ringer on here about my graph and they stepped up big time. Last fall I fished a tourney in the pouring rain. My hds 8 gen 1 got water in it and basically fried. I called Lowrance and told them what happened, and was told my unit was out of warranty by a few months. No problem, asked them to allow me to send it in for evaluation and I'd gladly pay for repairs. Their response is what angered me. Was told repair was not an option and only thing they could do was upgrade me to a newer unit at a discount. Needless to say I bashed them on the several threads that popped up here from people having similar issues. A month or so ago someone posted about their great experience with Lowrance so I decided to give it one more shot. Got on website, emailed them about my problem and was emailed back a shipping label to send in. About a week later got a few updates saying it was being evaluated, etc. (2) days ago got email saying unit was shipped under warranty. Today a new hds 8 gen 2 showed up on my door. I was floored. They did not have to send me a new unit but they did. Hopefully their customer service has turned around for good. Just wanted to say thank you to Lowrance publicly and give them their props.

Many Gen 1's had the factory bad seal defect causing them to never meet the published water spec they sold and advertised.

Your unit in a sense did not routinely fail....just never had been exposed long enough to enough rain to show its' original factory defect and now they can only correct with sending out a newer model replacement unit that they are producing.

Hopefully everyone just now discovering the water seal issues will be treated similarly. Too bad they said no and made you upset the 1st time you reported their defect to them.

Congrats! You will be much happier with that Gen2! Sometimes patience pays off.

Already have a gen (2) 10 at console and love it. The 8 is my bow unit. Very nice upgrade to say the least.

I had a Gen 2 that fried in the rain at Fork last year. They replaced it.

My Lowrance got too hot under the boat cover. Lowrance replaced it after telling me what caused the problem. Good people at Lowrance.

Good luck and safe fishin'!!!!

NOT to highjack the thread but Lowrance customer service is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than in the past. I had a question about replacing an Elite 5x with an Elite 7x, the rep led me through their website to the right part, & then through the purchasing process. The part is on its way & I will have the graphs swapped out in a few days. Lowrance customer service did a GREAT job!
