Son Kirk, Grandson Josh, and I visited Twak today to scratch the Hybrid Itch that we have not been able to scratch here. Kirk was our guide. Fishing was much different than on previous trips. As several people on the TFF had predicted fishing has become difficult. Old sites and baits don't produce on schedule and live bait is the ticket after you have found the fish.
We visited all of our old productive sites without any luck. We tried several new sites and found nothing before trying a large hump in the center of the lake. It had very nice fish all over it but they were singles with no schools. Other than giving us the depth, the graph was of little use as the fish did not show on the graph. We slow drifted live shad and picked up a nice fish every fifteen minutes or so. No fast action, but we landed twelve fish up to 25" for a pretty good day. We lost probably that many that came unhooked or just didn't get hooked.
They wanted 3"-4" shad and would not take larger ones. Shad were hard to come by. Josh got 4-5 to a throw instead of the full nets we had become used to. It was a lot tougher fishing.
Son Kirk did a great day of guiding us as after the first two hours I suspected we were going to be blanked. He found the new hump and guided us around the top of it till we had a very nice day.
Only two SB caught and two cats.
