Well it's been awhile since I sold the ride 135 and all my fishing gear, and I'm looking at getting another kayak and some gear. Money has been a little tight but with the new job I hope to start the first part of August I should be able to start collecting gear again. Unfortunately I had to drop a little over a grand on a stcw-95 basic training class that I have to take on the 22nd or I could have used that for a little gear to get started.
I am thinking about just pulling the trigger this time and getting a PA14 but along with the new job I will be around the coast a lot and I'm wondering how they do in skinny water? I'd like to start doing a little salt water fishing and I don't want added problems by getting the PA.
Also as far as gear, what's a good bait cast reel that will handle bass and inshore fish? And rod suggestions for the same as well?

I don't think the salt poses any problems in particular for the PA. For skinny water, you would just want to stick to 2+ feet. The PA can be paddled but it is not fun. The fins stick down about 18" I believe. You would need to be mindful in the flats but I know a lot of guys that pedal PA's inshore.
I just got an Outback and while it is very different than the PA, one of the things I like best about it is that obviously it is meant to be pedaled, but it can be paddled just fine as well. It doesn't track great from what I can tell, but it comes with a rudder so...

Any idea of how shallow it floats loaded with the mirage drive removed?

Ya I think that's what I will end up with for the coast and cats zombie. But I can't seem to cast them as far as a low profile bait cast reel.
I was also thinking about a couple of Abu's pro max reels. I had one awhile back it it was great for the money and it wouldn't hurt to bad if the salt jacked it up. Not sure yet

I have salt and fresh water gear combos I was looking to possibly sell to get a kayak.
I have the following: Abu Garcia 7000. Used in salt a few times. Abu Garcia 6500c3 used in fresh water maybe 3 times. I also have a couple low profile bass reels. Garcia Silver Max and assorted BPS brand rod & reel combos. Even have a new in box fly rod & reel combo.
