Does anybody have a stereo system set up on their kayaks? Most of the time the peace and quiet is what I want when fishing, but occasionally I want to listen to some music on those 12 hour + trips. Currently I just have some offbrand of the "Jam Box" which is just a bluetooth speaker that I link with my phone and play Pandora. However, it ends up killing my phone after a couple hours and I would rather not be without my phone for safety reasons. So I am wondering about ideas for a true stereo, something like a motorcycle radio setup, maybe? I am not sure if those are water proof or can handle the salt though. Also I am assuming it would need to be mounted to a waterproof box or something to mount the speakers without making very large holes in your kayak.

I just use a mp3 player/ipod in a small dry bag around my neck since I dont want my music to impede on anyone else's tranquility.

Get a Lowrance Sconic Hub That is a bit much lol. I just use a mp3 player/ipod in a small dry bag around my neck since I dont want my music to mess up anyone else's tranquility. I don't actually have one, might be the person that doesn't lol. I just use my phone for that in most situations. As to messing up people's tranquility... I fishing mostly in high boating traffic areas, there are a lot of big boats cruising around blaring their music so minor volume would not be of concern. I am not looking to have anything really loud. I just have trouble hearing my current speaker when the wind kicks up, so I need a tab more volume. hmmmm, had no thought of that, I suppose I could look into that, but I am unsure as to the clarity / volume possible for these.

I was thinking something like this, $12.99 ain't too bad either. Just have to hook up to FF battery or independent 8 x AA power pack. Mount it in a waterproof box and it should work. Here are a couple I found using this stereo setup on the nucanoe forums. This is what I was thinking of myself This one is set up to mount on the freedom tracks on the nucanoe frontier. Battery pack is inside the PVC.

Get a Lowrance Sconic Hub I am really considering this... Anyone know what the package runs? I'm pretty sure it will be a plug and play with my HDS7 gen 2 with LSSHD. There are a lot of good deals right now... http://m.cabelas.com/cabelas/catalog?cid=1255709

Seems like it would really eat up some battery life. Also the biggere footprint would require some more engineering to compensate for.

If you go with the PA you can mount the gear in the front hatch. I already run a 90amp hour battery so that would not be too much of a concern for me ;-)

I wonder if you could find the recordings of bait fish and make your own fish attractor like the sound wave or what ever it is called

I am almost thinking of building something like this. Internal deer feeder battery, splice in a iPhone charging cable, done. Other option would be to set it up to connect to my main battery and run everything off of one. Not quite sure yet. The problem for me with the eco terra is that it does not charge your mp3 device while playing. I am intending to get a Frontier and drop a minn kota on it with a 109 AH battery so I should have power to spare.
