Did a little crappie fishing at Ray Roberts last Sunday. I was about to launch my boat when I was approached by a gentlement. He asked me if I had ever fished a certain brush pile that he had been having a lot of luck at lately. I replied no that I had not and he invited me to come fish it with him. It sounded better than the plan I had in mind so I agreed to join him. We didn't catch many fish but a lot of stories were told, I learned a few things and thoroughly enjoyed my time on the water with Ronnie. He even gave me some jigs that he makes. Just proves to me that fishing isn't about catching. Hope to see you out there again soon Ronnie.

Nice fishin' story! Sound like y'all have a nice relaxing time on the water plus some crappie catching as a bonus...Thanks for sharing! thumb

The pursuit (where are the fish), rigs design and setup, scouting, the awesome feeling of casting your rigs 100+ yards out, the total focus on the fish and the elements, the outdoors... the total exhaustion at the end of your fishing day,... the cooler full of fish to bring home... Yeah, I'm going to miss bank fishing!

Great post Capt Mac! Just curious about the fly rod...are you casting it? Looks like the reel is spooled with mono and maybe you are using it for vertical jigging. If you are casting it I'd appreciate any information on your experience with lake fishing deep water summer crappie on the fly.

[qu

No sir, spooled up with four pound test mono and vertical jigging with jigs I made. The deepest water I have had any success was 8 -10 feet with clouser minnows. I have a sinking line but I fish put of a Jon Boat and usually don't luck into a calm enough day to allow the boat to stay in position long enough to sink everything 20-30 feet deep. Besides, I feel like using the trolling motor to move around a brush pile while vertical jigging is way more effective. But that's just my two cents.
