Hi, new to tying. What do you like better, hackel or marabou?. I really am not looking for durability, i normally have to trow it away after a day, the hook is all bent. From a fishing standpoint, what is better?

Both, but remember nothing has the action of marabou! Also remember don't leave the stem in when tying marabou unless it's so very thin. I probably on normal jigs only use the stem in my tails 5% to 10% of the time. There are some patterns that use the tips of the marabou, but usually in a fly.

Kicking this old thread back up.
It seems like most of the jigs are see nowadays are hackle over marabou. Is there a reason for this other than hackle being easier to work with? Does one work better than the other in a certain seasons or conditions?

Thanks for the info, I just thought it was odd 90% of the hand tied jigs I see here are done with hackle. I don't see marabou jig pics nearly as often & was wondering if it was solely because hackle is easier to work with?
I am just getting into tying jigs and plan to tie & fish both; for you fellas tying/fishing both, is there a time of year or condition that you would choose to fish one over the other?

If your just starting out Tin Boat I would use simple materials first and get the hang of it all then start experimenting from there.
Just my 2 cents worth.
