Headed to the in-laws late next week, and planning on taking the boat with me for a little time on the water away from the, well, the in-laws. Have rode around on the lake in the FIL's boat a few times, but never wetted a hook. Looking for some basic advise on what part of the lake I might look for some Sandies/whites?
Any advice is appreciated.
Jay

I'm no expert, but I think you'll want to look around the deepest part of the lake. Pass the power lines going south and hover around the dam. I think there are lots of ridges and humps that will hold fish.

Have not been out in the past several days But sandies catch has been consitent with good size for the past couple of months. Most of the catchs have been from 377 to the dam on drop offs in around 20 feet depth with slabs. No reports of schooling sandies.DFon't let the stories on low lake level scare you off, just be careful when using big engine. Golden Algea is not a problem this time of the year.

Granbury is smoking hot for white bass. Has been for months and months. Surface schooling just started with huge schools of fish near Indian Harbor and Decordova. After the surface schooling go back down to 15 to 20 feet and slab them away. Sandbass to 18inches are possible with easy limits. See some of my past posts.

Thanks fellas. I figured to head down closer to the dam area. It's a pretty good run down from the in-law's house. I'll either trailer down that way or run it slow and easy.
How are the boat ramps with the lake level? Anything closed? Or any that i should specifically avoid?
Thanks Again.

Unless something has changed recently the only open ramps are the one next to the Hilton/Conference center and Rough Creek off of 144.

If you use Rough Creek use the part of the ramp closest to the boat dock. When you exit Rough Creek stay to the left side. I would idle out until you are in the channel and STAY in the channel. As far as the whites, we caught most of our limit down towards the dam. Late in the after noon we went to the 377 bridge and there were large schools of whites. Lots of 9 7/8 inch fish, but had fun catching them.
Caught most of ours on rattle traps and a few on slabs when we would catch up with the schools.
